  • • Partner with stakeholders to translate credit risk management requirements into data-driven solutions for measuring and monitoring credit risk across WEX’s financial products and services.
  • • Design, develop, and deploy scalable, automated risk modeling solutions using advanced machine learning, artificial intelligence, and statistical methods tailored to credit risk applications.
  • • Extract and analyze credit risk patterns from large-scale transaction data, behavioral signals, and external risk indicators using SQL and programming languages such as Python or R.
  • • Manage the end-to-end model development and deployment lifecycle, proactively identifying challenges, risks, and opportunities to ensure timely and effective delivery of risk solutions.
  • • Apply supervised and unsupervised learning techniques, sampling methods, and statistical inference to build, test, and validate models for underwriting, behavioral surveillance, and loss prevention.
  • • Leverage modern data science libraries including scikit-learn, lightgbm, and pandas to develop robust analytical pipelines and automated processes for credit risk assessment.
  • • Ensure model quality and analytical integrity by embedding rigorous data quality controls from the outset, with focus on reproducibility, traceability, and trustworthiness of findings.
  • • Communicate complex analytical results to business stakeholders in a clear, succinct, and impactful manner, aligning insights with strategic business outcomes and decision-making.
  • • Stay current with emerging trends in machine learning and data science, evaluating new tools and techniques to improve modeling accuracy, efficiency, and scalability in credit risk domains.
  • • Mentor junior data scientists by sharing best practices, reviewing code, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and high standards in data science practice.
  • • Collaborate cross-functionally with domain experts to integrate external intelligence sources such as LexisNexis, Socure, and Dun & Bradstreet into risk modeling workflows.
  • • Utilize cloud-based platforms like AWS SageMaker to develop, train, and operationalize machine learning models in production environments.
  • • Implement and support MLOps frameworks to enable automated model retraining, monitoring, and feature store management for real-time risk scoring systems.
  • • Drive continuous improvement of team processes and analytical standards through dynamic collaboration and a results-focused mindset focused on measurable business impact.
  • • Maintain deep expertise in credit risk drivers for small and medium-sized businesses, public firms, and private firms, including the use of credit bureau data and internal risk management systems.
  • • Demonstrate a curiosity and learning mindset by actively acquiring new technical skills and teaching others to enhance the overall data science capability at WEX.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 4 or more years of professional experience in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence with a focus on credit risk management in financial services
  • • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Operations Research, or Computer Science
  • • Advanced knowledge of SQL and experience managing large datasets for credit risk analysis
  • • Advanced proficiency in Python or R with hands-on experience using scikit-learn, lightgbm, pandas, and similar libraries
  • • Deep understanding of model deployment requirements, including real-time feature stores and scalable production environments
  • • Strong communication and presentation skills to translate complex analytics into actionable business insights
