Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • As the Senior Director of SRE, you will be the architect leader of resilience for WEX's global mobility platform, a critical role ensuring the seamless, scalable, and secure operation of services that power real-time GPS tracking, dispatching, and global payment processing. This position is pivotal in bridging the gap between rapid product development and the stringent "five-nines" (99.999%) availability demanded by a dynamic, fast-paced industry.
- • You will lead a high-performing organization of Site Reliability Engineers, fostering a culture of proactive problem-solving and continuous improvement. Your strategic vision will guide the SRE roadmap, shifting the focus from reactive incident management to automated platform health and predictive maintenance.
- • A core responsibility is overseeing the global infrastructure that supports millions of concurrent trips, meticulously accounting for diverse geographic regions, local regulatory requirements, and latency considerations. This involves ensuring our systems are robust enough to handle peak loads and maintain performance under varying conditions.
- • You will own the end-to-end incident management lifecycle, not just responding to major outages but cultivating a blameless culture centered on thorough root-cause analysis (RCA) and the implementation of permanent, effective remediation strategies.
- • A key innovation will be the deployment of AI/ML models to analyze historical telemetry data. This predictive capability will allow for the early identification of potential capacity "hotspots" and system fatigue, enabling proactive intervention before issues impact users.
- • You will play a crucial role in error budget oversight, collaborating closely with Product and Engineering VPs. This partnership will ensure a delicate balance between accelerating innovation and maintaining uncompromising reliability, enforced through strictly defined Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Indicators (SLIs).
- • Strategic planning is paramount. You will work hand-in-hand with product and commercial partners to drive initiatives, prioritize efforts, and work backward from customer requirements to consistently exceed expected outcomes.
- • Execution excellence will be a hallmark of your leadership. You will establish and drive effective monthly, weekly, and quarterly mechanisms for planning, executing, and auditing workstreams, ensuring accountability and progress.
- • Optimizing a massive global cloud footprint across AWS, GCP, and Azure is a significant undertaking. You will focus on cloud cost management and efficiency, ensuring that high performance is achieved without incurring unsustainable operational expenses.
- • Championing "Infrastructure as Code" (IaC) and the development of self-service tooling is essential. This will empower developers to deploy their applications safely and efficiently, minimizing manual intervention and reducing the risk of human error.
- • Team management and growth are central to this role. You will establish a clear and robust engineering roadmap to maintain focus and motivation within the SRE team. Furthermore, you will actively manage career growth plans, providing regular feedback and support to foster individual and team development.
- • Measuring and improving dev productivity across the Mobility SRE organization using data-driven metrics will be a key performance indicator. This involves establishing benchmarks and implementing strategies to enhance efficiency and output.
- • Exceptional communication skills are required. You will be comfortable presenting, influencing, and communicating complex technical strategies and challenges to senior leadership. Providing regular, insightful updates on the state of the Mobility domain, its challenges, and opportunities will be critical. Effectively managing upwards, across, and downwards with tangible written strategy documents and plans is expected.
- • This role is integral to the WEX Mobility Engineering organization, specifically leading engineering for a vertical focused on payments solutions. The Mobility team operates globally, spanning the USA, India, and Brazil, delivering SaaS and API solutions to a diverse customer base in North America. The products enable credit issuance to fleet companies and owner-operators via WEX Credit Cards, offering advanced spend control configurations for fleet managers.
