Full Job Description
đ Description
- ⢠The Sr Electrical Engineer at FORTNA plays a critical role in designing and deploying advanced control solutions for material handling systems that power modern distribution, fulfillment, and warehouse operations. This role directly contributes to optimizing supply chain efficiency for global brands by engineering scalable, reliable electrical systems that enable fast, accurate order fulfillment and last-mile deliveryâmaking it essential to FORTNAâs mission of transforming omnichannel logistics through intelligent automation.
- ⢠Day-to-day responsibilities include developing complete electrical system designs using IEC/US standards and customer specifications with minimal supervision; creating detailed electrical drawings (control panels, power distribution single lines, conveyor layouts) using Autodesk ACAD-E and proprietary FORTNA tools; calculating power requirements and ratings for system components; generating bills of materials for panels and field devices; supporting remote teams in reviewing drawings for manufacturing and installation; troubleshooting electrical circuits, Ethernet networks, and basic PLC logic; deploying and commissioning control solutions at customer sites; collaborating across teams to solve shared engineering challenges; and leading design efforts by coordinating and overseeing the work of other engineers on complex projects.
- ⢠FORTNA is a global leader in intelligent material handling solutions, partnering with top brands to modernize omnichannel and parcel distribution through innovative software-driven automation. The company fosters a culture of collaboration, diversity, and empowerment, where employees are encouraged to contribute to meaningful, large-scale operational transformations. Engineering teams work on cutting-edge technologies in sortation, singulation, gapping, induction, and merging systems, applying proprietary algorithms and deep domain expertise to solve real-world logistics challenges.
- ⢠In this role, the Sr Electrical Engineer will deepen expertise in industrial automation, control system design, and material handling technologies while gaining hands-on experience with advanced PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, Beckhoff), industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, Profibus), and HMI/SCADA systems (Ignition, FactoryTalk, Wonderware). The position offers opportunities to lead projects, refine project management skills, and influence best practices in conveyor controlâpositioning the engineer for growth into senior technical or leadership roles within FORTNAâs engineering organization.
đŻ Requirements
- ⢠B.S. Degree in Engineering with 5â8 years of relevant work experience; equivalent experience without a degree will be considered.
- ⢠Proficiency in Autodesk ACAD-E (AutoCAD Electrical) for creating electrical drawings, schematics, and control panel layouts is required.
- ⢠Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and UL508A standards, along with experience designing control systems for material handling equipment such as sorters, conveyors, and field devices.
- ⢠Familiarity with industrial network protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, EtherCAT) and PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Beckhoff, or Siemens); experience programming PLCs is a plus.
- ⢠Understanding of hardware used in material handling systems, including VFDs, panel components, and field electrical devices; prior experience in material handling is desired.
- ⢠Ability to communicate technical information clearly, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively under pressure to meet aggressive project deadlines.
đď¸ Benefits
- ⢠Opportunity to work on innovative, large-scale automation projects for world-leading brands in logistics and e-commerce.
- ⢠Collaborative, inclusive workplace culture centered on the âJoin the Movementâ philosophy, emphasizing teamwork, diversity, and personal growth.
- ⢠Exposure to cutting-edge technologies in control systems, industrial networking, and automation software used across FORTNAâs proprietary solutions.
- ⢠Professional development through mentorship, cross-functional collaboration, and leadership opportunities on complex engineering projects.
- ⢠Flexible remote work arrangement within the United States, with limited travel (up to 15%) to customer sites for deployment and commissioning.
- ⢠Access to comprehensive tools and resources, including FORTNA-custom electrical design software and Microsoft 365 Office apps.
