📋 Description

• As a Senior Fullstack Engineer on Zapier's Identity Platform team, you will own the foundational authentication and session infrastructure that enables enterprise customers to securely and reliably use Zapier at scale, directly impacting the company's ability to win and retain large enterprise deals by ensuring authentication systems are fast, resilient, and easy to integrate.
• You will design and extend enterprise authentication systems including SAML SSO, SCIM provisioning, OAuth/OIDC flows, multi-factor authentication, login, sign-up, and secure session handling for organizations with thousands of users, focusing on reliability, latency, and efficiency as non-negotiables while evolving JWT validation, token exchange, and session tracking across a multi-service architecture spanning Python, Node.js, and Go.
• You will build and maintain enterprise authentication controls and compliance APIs such as forced SSO, domain capture, admin-managed authentication policies, and credential lifecycle controls (JWT key rotation, token refresh, session expiry), ensuring alignment with SOC 2, GDPR, and audit trail requirements as core design constraints.
• You will create and evolve platform APIs, libraries, and contracts used by dozens of internal teams, emphasizing backward compatibility, clear documentation, low integration friction, and driving adoption through integration guides, migration paths, and direct collaboration with product and engineering teams.
• You will work closely with enterprise buyers, internal engineering teams, customer support, and security partners to understand real-world needs, troubleshoot incidents, participate in on-call rotation, and remove authentication bottlenecks that slow down cross-functional initiatives.
• You will operate in an async-first, AI-augmented development environment where you direct and review agent-written code, use AI agents to rapidly prototype solutions in unfamiliar codebases, and ship working software within days to validate assumptions and drive alignment, treating discarded work as a fast learning loop.
• You will contribute to Zapier’s culture of ownership by taking initiative without permission, communicating through written artifacts and demos, managing up and across teams proactively, and openly acknowledging mistakes and gaps as part of continuous improvement.

🎯 Requirements

• Hands-on experience building identity systems for enterprise SaaS at scale, including deep protocol-level knowledge of SAML, SCIM, OAuth/OIDC, or JWT in multi-tenant environments, with real-world experience handling token replay, session fixation, key rotation under load, multi-IdP federation, just-in-time provisioning, or identity linking.
• Proficiency in a fullstack development workflow involving Python and Node.js backend services (Django, Fastify), React for admin or developer-facing UIs, and infrastructure tools like Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines, with comfort working across the stack even if not an expert in all areas.
• Proven ability to work effectively with AI agents as a core part of your development process — directing, reviewing, and iterating on agent-written code, using agents to explore unfamiliar codebases, build prototypes rapidly, and adapt workflows based on real failure modes and mitigations.
• Experience designing and maintaining platform APIs or internal libraries used by multiple teams, with a strong focus on backward compatibility, clear contracts, documentation, and driving adoption through integration support and migration guidance.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in ambiguous environments by breaking problems into small, testable slices, shipping working prototypes quickly to gather evidence and drive alignment, and treating compliance and security as design constraints to innovate within rather than obstacles to delay progress.
• Strong communication and ownership habits in an async-first culture, including initiating work without permission, sharing early and often via written demos or prototypes, managing up and across teams proactively, and openly acknowledging mistakes and knowledge gaps.
