- • Serve as the primary finance business partner for all Discovery R&D groups, including Computational Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Biology, DMPK, Analytical, Toxicology, and HTE & Lab Operations, supporting both internal pipeline and external partnership programs.
- • Lead the end-to-end financial planning process for Discovery R&D, including annual planning, mid-year reforecasting, and quarterly budget-to-actual reviews.
- • Develop and maintain detailed financial models and budgets that track spending by group, program, and project, alongside comprehensive headcount planning.
- • Provide timely, actionable financial insights and analytics to senior leadership to inform strategic decisions regarding drug discovery initiatives and partnership opportunities.
- • Support long-range planning and scenario planning efforts for internal pipeline development and external collaboration programs.
- • Build and manage comprehensive program budgets to enable Business Development activities, including deal negotiations and scaling efforts.
- • Collaborate with the Accounting team on month-end close activities, including accurate accruals for preclinical and other R&D-related expenses.
- • Contribute to the design and implementation of scalable, gold-standard FP&A tools, systems, and processes to support Iambic’s rapid growth.
- • Perform ad hoc financial analyses and special projects as assigned by leadership, ensuring alignment with company objectives and operational needs.
- • Work independently and as a collaborative team member, maintaining clear communication and coordination across scientific, operational, and finance functions.
- • Ensure financial planning activities reflect a deep understanding of R&D life cycles, preclinical drug discovery processes, and associated cost drivers in biotechnology.
- • Partner effectively with cross-functional teams, translating complex scientific and operational data into clear financial narratives for non-finance stakeholders.
- • Maintain rigorous attention to detail in financial reporting, modeling accuracy, and budget adherence across multiple concurrent programs.
- • Adapt quickly to a fast-paced, dynamic biotech environment with evolving priorities and high-stakes decision-making.
- • Support the company’s growth by building new financial frameworks and improving existing processes to enhance efficiency and scalability.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8–12 years of professional FP&A experience within biotech, pharma, or life sciences
- • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related discipline (MBA or CPA preferred)
- • Strong understanding of R&D life cycles, preclinical drug discovery, and associated cost drivers
- • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite) and FP&A tools (e.g., Adaptive Planning, Anaplan)
- • Proven ability to partner effectively with scientific and business teams through clear communication and presentation skills
- • Ability to prioritize, coordinate, and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
