- • We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sr. Revenue Recognition Technical Accountant to join our dynamic finance team at Smarsh, Inc. This pivotal role is instrumental in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of our revenue recognition processes, directly impacting our financial reporting integrity and strategic decision-making. As a Sr. Revenue Recognition Technical Accountant, you will be at the forefront of interpreting and applying complex accounting standards, particularly ASC 606, to our diverse range of software and service offerings. Your expertise will be crucial in navigating the intricacies of revenue contracts, ensuring that our financial statements accurately reflect our performance and adhere to the highest standards of regulatory compliance.
- • This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact within a rapidly growing, industry-leading software company. Smarsh empowers over 6500 organizations in regulated industries to manage risk and unleash intelligence in their digital communications. Our commitment to relentless innovation has consistently earned us leadership recognition from analysts like Gartner and Forrester, and our sustained, aggressive growth is evidenced by our inclusion in the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing American companies since 2008. You will be working closely with the Global Corporate Controller and other senior finance leaders, contributing to the strategic financial operations of the company.
- • Your primary responsibilities will include the comprehensive review and analysis of customer contracts to identify and document revenue recognition implications. This involves a deep dive into contract terms, including performance obligations, variable consideration, contract modifications, and the determination of the transaction price. You will be responsible for the proper application of ASC 606, ensuring that revenue is recognized in accordance with the five-step model and that all relevant disclosures are made accurately and timely.
- • You will play a key role in the month-end and year-end close processes, specifically focusing on revenue-related journal entries, reconciliations, and analysis. This includes preparing detailed schedules and supporting documentation for revenue, deferred revenue, and accounts receivable. Your analytical skills will be essential in identifying trends, variances, and potential issues, and you will be expected to provide insightful commentary and recommendations to management.
- • Collaboration is a cornerstone of this role. You will work cross-functionally with sales, legal, professional services, and product teams to ensure a thorough understanding of new offerings, contract structures, and business initiatives. This collaboration will enable you to proactively identify and address potential revenue recognition challenges, providing guidance and support to ensure compliance and optimize financial outcomes.
- • You will be involved in the development and implementation of internal controls and processes related to revenue recognition. This includes documenting policies and procedures, conducting training for relevant stakeholders, and ensuring adherence to established controls. Your proactive approach to process improvement will help streamline operations and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our revenue recognition function.
- • Staying abreast of the latest accounting pronouncements and industry best practices is critical. You will be responsible for researching new accounting guidance, assessing its impact on Smarsh, and implementing necessary changes to our accounting policies and procedures. This continuous learning and adaptation will ensure that Smarsh remains at the forefront of financial reporting compliance.
- • Furthermore, you will assist in preparing for and responding to external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations related to revenue recognition. Your ability to clearly articulate complex accounting concepts to both finance and non-finance personnel will be highly valued.
- • This role requires a meticulous attention to detail, a strong analytical mindset, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. You will be expected to take ownership of your work, deliver high-quality results, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and financial excellence within Smarsh.
- • The Sr. Revenue Recognition Technical Accountant will be a key contributor to the finance team, supporting the Global Corporate Controller in various technical accounting matters beyond revenue recognition as needed, offering a broad exposure to accounting challenges within a growing SaaS company. This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned accounting professional looking to leverage their technical expertise in a challenging and rewarding remote role.
