• • As the primary financial steward for cloud hosting costs, you will be instrumental in providing comprehensive visibility to both Finance and Technology leadership. Your expertise will ensure a clear and actionable understanding of the factors influencing hosting spend, enabling proactive management and strategic planning.
• • You will be responsible for the meticulous integration of cloud hosting spend into Reddit's annual budget and ongoing financial forecasts. This involves developing sophisticated financial models that accurately predict future expenditures based on growth projections, product roadmaps, and evolving technology needs.
• • A key aspect of this role is the rigorous reconciliation of actual hosting costs against the budget and forecast during the monthly financial close. You will work closely with the accounting team to ensure accuracy and identify any discrepancies, providing detailed explanations for variances.
• • You will be a crucial partner to our Engineering and Cloud Platform teams, collaborating closely to identify, track, and validate the effectiveness of cost-saving initiatives. This partnership is essential for driving tangible efficiencies and fostering a culture of cost consciousness across the organization.
• • Develop and refine advanced financial models specifically designed for cloud hosting spend. These models will be critical for long-term financial planning, supporting strategic contract negotiations with major cloud providers, and enabling robust scenario analysis.
• • Conduct in-depth scenario analysis to evaluate the financial implications of various business events, such as significant user growth, new product launches, major infrastructure changes, and long-term contract commitments. This will provide leadership with the data needed to make informed strategic decisions.
• • Lead the monthly variance analysis process, meticulously comparing actual hosting spend against the approved budget and forecast across different Lines of Business (LoBs). You will be expected to provide clear, concise explanations for any deviations, highlighting key trends and their potential impact on Reddit’s Profit and Loss (P&L) statement.
• • Develop and implement standardized, consistent reporting packages that clearly articulate hosting cost trends, key performance indicators (KPIs), and their financial implications. These reports will serve as a vital communication tool for stakeholders across the company.
• • Proactively identify and develop cost optimization initiatives. This includes establishing robust tracking mechanisms to monitor the progress and success of these initiatives, ensuring accountability and measurable results.
• • Create and maintain Return on Investment (ROI) models to rigorously evaluate and support cloud investment decisions, particularly in areas of strategic importance to Reddit's future growth and innovation.
• • Leverage your experience and knowledge of industry best practices to proactively propose innovative efficiency initiatives to the Engineering and Cloud Platform teams. Your insights will be invaluable in identifying opportunities for cost reduction and performance improvement.
• • Drive cost-saving initiatives to successful completion by developing and implementing clear accountability mechanisms for the engineering teams. This involves fostering a collaborative approach to cost management.
• • Enforce and refine tagging and allocation governance policies to enhance the visibility, accuracy, and accountability of cloud hosting spend across all teams and projects.
• • Act as a trusted financial advisor to the Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Cloud Platform teams. Provide expert guidance on budgeting, unit economics, optimization strategies, and overall financial strategy related to cloud infrastructure.
• • Build and maintain comprehensive dashboards that serve as the definitive source of truth for hosting cost reporting for the Finance department. These dashboards should offer real-time insights and facilitate data-driven decision-making.
• • Utilize various billing tools and platforms to ensure the accuracy and integrity of hosting cost data and reporting.
• • Stay abreast of the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to cloud computing and FinOps. Incorporate these findings into Reddit's financial strategies and best practices.
• • Take complete ownership of the Cost of Revenue (COR) forecast, ensuring its accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with business objectives.
• • Own and meticulously maintain the weekly COR file, guaranteeing its accuracy, completeness, and timely distribution to relevant stakeholders.
• • Provide clear, concise weekly visibility into changes in hosting costs, offering insightful explanations for the drivers of variance to both Finance and Technology leadership.
• • Partner closely with the Accounting team during the monthly close process to reconcile COR actuals with vendor invoices and internal financial records, ensuring financial integrity.
