This role specifically focuses on our Managed Gateways offerings, including Dedicated Cloud Gateways and Serverless Gateways, ensuring they deliver unparalleled reliability and performance to our global customer base.
- • As an SRE for our Managed Gateways, you will be instrumental in ensuring the end-to-end technical success of this platform. This involves architecting, developing, and operating software systems to achieve and maintain an exceptional uptime Service Level Agreement (SLA) of 99.99%. Your contributions will directly impact the reliability and scalability of our offerings, which are critical for businesses relying on seamless API connectivity.
- • You will be a key player in shaping the technical direction of the Managed Gateways product. This means not only maintaining existing systems but also driving innovation through the development of new features and improvements. Your insights and expertise will be crucial in identifying opportunities to enhance performance, security, and user experience, ensuring Kong remains a leader in the API management space.
- • Collaboration is at the heart of this role. You will work closely with product leadership to define and refine the strategy, roadmap, and objectives for our managed gateways. This ensures that our engineering efforts are tightly aligned with business goals and that we are continuously delivering value to our customers. Your ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable plans will be essential.
- • The scope of your responsibilities will include the operational excellence of our Dedicated Cloud Gateways, which provide customers with fully managed, private, and isolated gateway environments. These gateways eliminate infrastructure management complexities while upholding stringent security and compliance standards. You will ensure these are designed for high performance and scalability, enabling businesses to control traffic flow without resource contention.
- • Furthermore, you will be involved with our Serverless Gateways, a fully managed, elastic API gateway solution designed to meet fluctuating traffic demands without the need for manual infrastructure provisioning. Your work will ensure these gateways are lightweight, cost-effective, and fully managed, simplifying operations and reducing costs for our users deploying APIs in serverless environments.
- • Key responsibilities will involve deep dives into system architecture, performance tuning, and proactive identification of potential issues. You will be responsible for implementing robust monitoring and alerting systems, leveraging tools like Datadong, Prometheus, Grafana, or Victoria Metrics to maintain visibility into system health.
- • Incident management will be a critical aspect of your role. You will be expected to respond effectively to high-pressure situations, diagnose complex issues, and implement timely resolutions to minimize any impact on our customers. Post-incident analysis and the implementation of preventative measures will be crucial for continuous improvement.
- • You will contribute to the development lifecycle, potentially involving backend development, preferably in GoLang, to enhance the capabilities and reliability of our platform. Experience with Kubernetes is essential, as you will be working with container orchestration at scale.

🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- • 3+ years of experience in building and operating highly reliable SaaS/PaaS systems with a proven track record of achieving 99.99% uptime or higher.
- • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and a strong understanding of public cloud network architectures.
- • Strong expertise in Kubernetes, including experience with its architecture and operational management.
- • Deep understanding of networking concepts, particularly OSI Layer 4 (Transport) and Layer 7 (Application) protocols such as DNS, TLS/SSL, and HTTP.
- • Proficiency in backend development, with a preference for GoLang, and experience in designing and developing highly scalable distributed systems.
- • Demonstrated experience in managing incidents, performing root cause analysis, and communicating effectively under pressure.
- • Familiarity with observability tools like Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, Victoria Metrics, or similar.
