📋 Description

• Agent Inc. is a dynamic, rapidly growing tax and accounting firm specializing in e-commerce clients, primarily supporting Shopify-based businesses with bookkeeping, financial reporting, and sales tax support in a fast-paced startup environment.
• The Staff Accountant role is critical to maintaining accurate financial operations for a growing portfolio of clients, ensuring compliance, timely reporting, and high-touch client service in a remote, independent contractor setting.
• Manage 4–5 client accounts independently with minimal supervision, taking full ownership of day-to-day accounting workflows from transaction recording to financial close.
• Perform core bookkeeping tasks including bank and account reconciliations, journal entries, and maintaining accurate financial records across all client ledgers to ensure data integrity and audit readiness.
• Prepare and support the creation of financial reports and filings, including sales tax documentation, leveraging experience with e-commerce platforms and tax compliance tools where applicable.
• Communicate directly with clients via email and other channels, responding to inquiries in a timely, professional, and solution-oriented manner to build trust and long-term relationships.
• Assist with client onboarding processes and ongoing account maintenance, including setting up new clients in internal systems, gathering documentation, and ensuring smooth transitions.
• Work within Shopify and other internal accounting tools to extract, categorize, and reconcile sales, fees, and tax data specific to e-commerce business models.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data across all managed accounts through rigorous review processes, attention to detail, and proactive error detection.
• Support process improvement initiatives by identifying inefficiencies, suggesting workflow enhancements, and contributing to documentation efforts that improve team scalability.
• Collaborate with senior team members on special projects, month-end close activities, and workflow execution, providing reliable support and seeking guidance when needed.
• Maintain a high standard of professionalism and accountability as a self-starter who thrives in a remote, startup-driven environment with evolving priorities.

🎯 Requirements

• 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience with a strong foundation in accounting fundamentals and financial processes.
• Proven ability to manage multiple client accounts simultaneously with minimal supervision in a remote work setting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective, professional client-facing interactions.
• High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to accuracy in all financial tasks.
• Experience with e-commerce accounting, particularly Shopify, is preferred; familiarity with sales tax processes or tools like Avalara is a plus.
• Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets for data manipulation, reconciliation, and reporting tasks.
