- • As a Staff Analytics Engineer at Amplify Education, Inc., you will play a pivotal role in transforming raw data into actionable insights that empower educators and administrators to build better schools and foster deeper student learning. You will be at the forefront of designing, developing, and maintaining robust data models and pipelines that fuel our innovative K-12 educational programs and assessment tools.
- • Your primary responsibility will be to collaborate closely with a cross-functional team of data scientists, data analysts, data engineers, and software engineers. Together, you will architect and implement data solutions that are not only accurate and reliable but also secure and privacy-conscious, ensuring that valuable insights are delivered without compromising sensitive information.
- • You will be instrumental in building analytical models that underpin the reporting and dashboards our customers rely on. This involves a deep understanding of data warehousing principles, including designing efficient schemas and crafting complex SQL transformations using techniques like Common Table Expressions (CTEs), window functions, and pivots to derive meaningful metrics.
- • The role demands expertise in architecting data warehouse schemas and SQL transforms, ensuring reusability and efficiency through code-based ETL frameworks, with a strong preference for dbt. You will be responsible for creating data solutions leveraging a modern tech stack, including Snowflake for data warehousing, Airflow for workflow orchestration, dbt for data transformation, SQL for querying and manipulation, and Python for scripting and automation.
- • You will contribute to the entire data lifecycle, from data ingestion and transformation to modeling and serving data for consumption by business intelligence tools and analytical applications. This includes engineering novel datasets that capture the nuances of student progress and performance within adaptive learning environments, enabling flexible comparisons and deep dives into individual learning journeys.
- • A key aspect of your role will involve crafting slowly changing dimensional models that accurately reflect the dynamic nature of the K-12 educational landscape, such as managing school year changes and student transitions between classes or schools. This requires a meticulous approach to data modeling that accounts for temporal aspects and evolving relationships.
- • You will be a champion for data quality and consistency, becoming an expert in Amplify's data models and standards. Your work will directly impact the ability of school administrators to understand school performance and the effectiveness of teaching strategies, and principals to gain insights into classroom dynamics and student learning outcomes.
- • Beyond technical contributions, you will actively participate in agile development rituals, contributing to pull requests, CI/CD processes, and code reviews. You will also play a crucial role in mentoring junior team members, sharing your expertise, and fostering a collaborative and learning-oriented environment.
- • Continuous learning and knowledge sharing are integral to this role. You will be encouraged to immerse yourself in new technologies, participate in cross-team share-outs, brownbag sessions, and workshops, and stay abreast of emerging trends in data engineering and analytics.
- • You will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects such as building well-tested and documented ELT data pipelines for dbt models that feed into semantic layer models like Cube.dev. You will also contribute to improving our pipeline deployment and testing strategies, ensuring the robustness and reliability of our data infrastructure.
- • This position offers a unique chance to make a significant impact on the future of education by leveraging data to drive pedagogical innovation and improve student outcomes. You will be part of a mission-driven organization dedicated to transforming K-12 learning experiences.
- • Your technical leadership will be valued as you guide projects from conception to delivery, ensuring high-quality solutions that meet the needs of our users. You will also have the opportunity to explore and advocate for new tools and technologies that can enhance our data capabilities.
- • By joining Amplify, you become part of a pioneering company that has been shaping K-12 education since 2000, providing engaging curriculum and assessment programs that inspire deep thinking and independent learning. Your work will directly contribute to our mission of empowering educators with powerful tools to understand and respond to the needs of every student.
