📋 Description

• Join Monzo Bank, a revolutionary digital bank on a mission to make money work for everyone by simplifying complex traditional banking. We are seeking a talented Staff Backend Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our innovative financial products.
• As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will be instrumental in building and scaling the backend systems that power Monzo's award-winning services. You'll collaborate closely with product managers, designers, mobile and web engineers, data analysts, and other cross-functional team members to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
• Your primary focus will be on developing robust, scalable, and resilient backend services using Go, contributing to a microservices architecture that underpins our diverse product offerings, including personal and business accounts, joint accounts, accounts for younger users, credit cards, savings, investments, and pensions.
• You will be part of a dynamic squad, working within larger collectives such as Core Banking, Business Banking, Wealth, Borrowing, Growth, Payments, Platform, Fincrime, Security & Expansion. These collectives are at the forefront of innovation, often leveraging machine learning and AI to combat financial crime and build smarter financial tools.
• This role offers the opportunity to work on challenging problems in distributed systems, ensuring the reliability and performance of our banking infrastructure. You will contribute to our open-source efforts and share your knowledge through our engineering blog and internal knowledge-sharing sessions.
• We rely on a modern technology stack, including Go for application development, Cassandra for persistent data storage, Kafka for asynchronous messaging, Envoy Proxy for RPC, Kubernetes and Docker for container orchestration, and AWS for our infrastructure. Experience with React for internal dashboards is also part of our ecosystem.
• You will be expected to have a strong product mindset, caring deeply about customer outcomes and making data-informed decisions. The ability to work effectively in a team that embraces ambiguity and thrives on solving complex problems is essential.

• You will be involved in the entire lifecycle of a feature, from ideation and design through to implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance. 🎯 Requirements

• Strong experience working on the backend of a technology product, with a deep understanding of software architecture and design patterns.
• Experience with strongly-typed languages, particularly Go, or a willingness to learn and adapt quickly.
• A product mindset, with a focus on customer outcomes and data-informed decision-making.
• Experience or strong interest in distributed systems, building resilient software, and working with technologies like Cassandra, Kafka, Kubernetes, and AWS.
• Comfort working in a team that deals with ambiguity and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

• £115,000 - £150,000 base salary plus stock options.
