- • As a Staff Backend Engineer at Morpho Inc., you will play a pivotal role in building and maintaining the high-performance backend infrastructure that powers one of the fastest-growing DeFi lending protocols in the world, directly enabling open and efficient access to capital for users globally.
- • Your work will ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of core financial services, supporting Morpho’s mission to democratize finance by eliminating barriers in a fragmented and exclusionary traditional system.
- • Day to day, you will design, build, and operate backend services using TypeScript/Node and GraphQL, focusing on delivering low-latency, reliable user-facing experiences that handle significant transaction volumes.
- • You will model and evolve data schemas in PostgreSQL, optimizing for correctness, performance, and long-term maintainability as the protocol scales.
- • You will collaborate closely with frontend, product, protocol, risk, and security teams to ship end-to-end features, ensuring alignment across technical and product boundaries.
- • You will monitor, troubleshoot, and improve production systems through enhanced observability, incident response, and operational excellence practices.
- • You will actively simplify systems by reducing complexity, paying down technical debt, and standardizing patterns to improve team velocity and system resilience.
- • At the staff level, you will drive cross-team initiatives, sponsor technical design decisions, mentor engineers, and serve as a go-to owner for critical backend domains.
- • You will establish clear asynchronous communication habits and collaboration norms essential for success in a remote-first, globally distributed team.
- • Within 4–6 months, you will own end-to-end delivery of scoped features and propose architecture improvements that enhance reliability and scalability.
- • Within 12 months, you will become a trusted owner of a key backend domain with a multi-quarter roadmap, consistently delivering high-impact features and helping raise the team’s standards in reliability, performance, and operational excellence.
- • You will thrive in a fast-changing, remote-first environment, demonstrating strong bias for action, ownership, and first-principles problem-solving.
- • You will bring genuine curiosity for crypto/Web3 ecosystems and a continuous learning mindset, contributing to Morpho’s culture of innovation and technical excellence.
🎯 Requirements
- • Senior Level: 3–5 years of backend development experience with TypeScript/Node, GraphQL APIs, and relational databases (especially PostgreSQL).
- • Staff Level: 8–10+ years of backend development, including leading cross-team designs, shipping large ambiguous projects, and deep expertise in data modeling, performance optimization, and production operations.
- • Strong bias for action, ownership mindset, and first-principles problem-solving in fast-changing, uncertain environments.
- • Excellent written and asynchronous communication skills across time zones, with a team-first, low-ego collaboration approach.
- • Genuine curiosity for crypto/Web3 ecosystems and a commitment to continuous learning.
