📋 Description

• As a Staff Backend Engineer, Data Streaming at Helius Labs Inc., you will own and evolve the core streaming infrastructure that powers real-time Solana state changes for thousands of developers and institutions, directly enabling the next generation of crypto-powered applications on one of the fastest-growing blockchain ecosystems.
• Your work will define the technical direction of Helius’s most critical product — Laserstream — where latency, reliability, and throughput are not just engineering concerns but the product itself, making your impact immediate and measurable across the Solana ecosystem.
• Day to day, you will architect and lead development of high-throughput, low-latency streaming systems that process millions of events per second with sub-second latency, ensuring data integrity and scalability under extreme load.
• You will drive the technical roadmap for streaming capabilities, including designing filtered streams, next-generation webhooks, and novel data delivery mechanisms that expand what developers can build on Solana, translating ambiguous product needs into concrete architectural solutions.
• You will lead system design discussions across the full stack — software, Linux internals, networking, and hardware — making principled trade-offs between performance, consistency, and operational complexity to optimize for real-world usage patterns.
• You will set and enforce standards for operational excellence by designing observability pipelines, defining SLOs, leading incident response post-mortems, and implementing chaos engineering practices to ensure 99.9%+ uptime for mission-critical customer workloads.
• You will mentor and elevate engineers on the Data Streaming team through technical coaching, code reviews, and knowledge sharing, while fostering a culture of ownership and psychological safety that enables high-agency decision-making.
• You will partner cross-functionally with Sales, Support, and adjacent infrastructure teams (e.g., indexing, RPC, and dev tools) to align streaming capabilities with customer needs, translating enterprise requirements into scalable technical features.
• You will identify and solve ambiguous, cross-system problems — such as backpressure propagation, schema evolution in streaming pipelines, or hardware-level NIC tuning — that require deep systems thinking and a willingness to dive into unfamiliar layers of the stack.
• You will work within a small, senior, remote-first team of engineers and founders who prioritize simplicity, performance, and intellectual rigor, where your voice carries weight in shaping both technology and company culture.
• In this role, you will achieve mastery in building globally distributed, high-stakes streaming infrastructure at the intersection of blockchain and systems engineering, positioning yourself as a leader in decentralized infrastructure while contributing to open-source tooling and internal platforms that become industry benchmarks.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience with a proven track record designing and operating large-scale, production systems serving real customers at scale
• Deep proficiency in Rust or equivalent systems programming language (e.g., C++, Go) with demonstrated ability to write performance-critical, memory-safe code
• Hands-on experience with distributed streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka, NATS, Apache Flink, or AWS Kinesis, including tuning for latency and throughput
• Proficiency operating production databases including Postgres, ClickHouse, RocksDB, or similar, with understanding of storage engines, indexing, and query optimization
• Strong operational mindset: experience owning production systems with real-world SLAs, including incident response, observability, and post-mortem leadership
