• As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will serve as a critical technical pillar for the backend systems of our medical devices, bringing deep expertise to our most vital software assets.
• Your role will encompass the comprehensive development, enhancement, and maintenance of both the on-device backend, which operates locally on our medical kiosks, and the sophisticated cloud-based platform responsible for large-scale data processing and the generation of diagnostic reports.
• A key responsibility will be ensuring the seamless and efficient operation of our processing algorithms and software across both the on-device and cloud environments, establishing a robust and scalable foundation for our Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) initiatives.
• You will take ownership of the successful execution and deployment of the device backend, acting as the primary advocate and driver for exceptional code quality and reliability.
• A significant part of your work will involve optimizing and scaling the core processing algorithms and denoising software, ensuring peak performance both on the device and within the cloud infrastructure.
• You will be responsible for designing, building, and scaling our AWS-hosted, HIPAA-compliant data platform, leveraging Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles with Terraform for efficient and repeatable deployments.
• You will maintain and enhance robust backend services that are crucial for facilitating seamless communication and secure data transfer between field devices, the cloud, clinicians, and external hospital systems.
• You will play a pivotal role in establishing and building the necessary mechanisms to rigorously enforce best practices for handling sensitive patient data, ensuring unwavering security and strict HIPAA compliance across the entire technology stack.
• Develop clearly-written, thoroughly tested, and well-documented software solutions that adhere to the stringent standards required for the medical device software lifecycle, such as IEC 62304.
• Collaborate closely with stakeholders from regulatory affairs, product management, hardware engineering, and data science teams to effectively translate complex device functionalities and signal-processing models into production-ready, reliable backend services.
• Actively contribute to documentation efforts and facilitate internal knowledge transfer, ensuring the long-term health, maintainability, and evolution of our software ecosystem.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on mission-critical, high-performance production backend systems.
• Expert-level proficiency in Python.
• Deep experience building and managing cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, using Terraform (Infrastructure as Code).
• Demonstrated experience writing software for real-world physical devices, kiosks, or IoT edge environments, with an understanding of resource constraints and hardware-software interaction.
• Professional experience with Linux-based systems and the command line, specifically in environments where software interacts with real-world hardware.
• Demonstrated experience debugging complex systems.
