📋 Description

• As a Staff Controls Engineer at Ridealso Inc., you will serve as the technical owner of the vehicle’s brain, designing and validating the control systems that define how the electric motorcycle behaves—directly impacting safety, performance, and rider experience in emerging markets where sustainable mobility solutions are critically needed.
• You will lead the end-to-end vehicle controls stack from first hardware bring-up to production release, working hands-on with prototype hardware to develop real-time embedded software that governs motor control, battery management, regenerative braking, traction control, and rider-experience features, ensuring robustness and safety across diverse operating conditions.
• You will drive AI-accelerated engineering workflows by defining and implementing AI-assisted code generation, automated test coverage, model-assisted control development, and validation acceleration techniques to dramatically increase development velocity without compromising production-grade quality or safety standards.
• You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including hardware, systems, and validation engineers to integrate motor controllers, battery systems, sensors, and vehicle networks (CAN), while leading fault detection, safety monitoring, and supervisory control logic development for functional safety compliance (ISO 26262 or equivalent).
• You will support vehicle testing and tuning on real prototypes, including track testing and system debugging, iterating rapidly as the platform evolves, and ultimately delivering production-quality embedded software with defined verification processes to ensure reliability and readiness for scale.
• You will contribute to a mission-driven team at ALSO, a Silicon Valley-born electric mobility company spun from Rivian, dedicated to replacing inefficient car trips with affordable, enjoyable, and 10-50x more efficient small EVs—working alongside experts from automotive, tech, cycling, and outdoor recreation to build the next generation of sustainable transportation.

🎯 Requirements

• Degree qualified with 5+ years of experience in embedded software, vehicle systems, robotics, or connected devices, with strong expertise in embedded C/C++ and real-time embedded systems/RTOS.
• Proven experience designing complex hardware-integrated software systems, including CAN or vehicle network architectures, firmware–hardware integration, and control theory applied to dynamic systems such as motor control (FOC, inverter control) and traction/stability systems.
• Hands-on experience with electric powertrain systems, Battery Management Systems (BMS), OTA update systems, IoT connectivity platforms, and cybersecurity for connected devices, along with familiarity with HIL/SIL/MIL validation pipelines and vehicle dynamics.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary engineering programs, balance hands-on technical contribution with delivery leadership, and thrive in startup-scale environments while building strong relationships with external partners.
• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink or similar tools for control system modeling and simulation, and a commitment to adopting AI-accelerated engineering workflows for code generation, test coverage, and validation acceleration.
