• As a Staff Data Engineer, you will be at the forefront of tackling complex systems challenges from end-to-end. This involves not only shaping the architectural vision and making pragmatic design decisions but also actively contributing to the codebase. Your primary impact will stem from enhancing the current functionality and performance of our data platform while simultaneously guiding teams toward sound, long-term technical strategies. This role demands a blend of strong engineering judgment, collaborative spirit, and direct, hands-on execution.
• You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable and robust data pipelines that ingest, transform, and serve data from a multitude of sources, including transactional systems, user activity logs, and third-party integrations. This includes ensuring data quality, consistency, and availability for various downstream consumers such as business intelligence dashboards, machine learning models, and operational monitoring tools.
• A key aspect of this role involves architecting and implementing solutions for data warehousing, data lakes, and real-time data streaming, leveraging modern cloud-native technologies. You will evaluate and select appropriate technologies and frameworks to optimize for performance, cost, and maintainability, always with an eye towards future scalability and evolving business needs.
• You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Managers, Software Engineers, Data Scientists, and Analysts, to understand their data requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions. This involves proactive communication, providing technical guidance, and fostering a data-driven culture across the organization.
• You will champion best practices in data engineering, including data governance, data security, privacy compliance (e.g., GDPR), and disaster recovery. This includes developing and enforcing standards for data modeling, code quality, testing, and deployment within the data platform.
• This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the technical direction of MoonPay's data ecosystem. You will identify opportunities for innovation, performance improvements, and cost optimizations within the data platform, and lead initiatives to implement these changes. This might involve exploring new technologies, refactoring existing systems, or developing novel approaches to data processing and analysis.
• You will mentor and guide junior engineers, sharing your expertise and fostering their growth. By leading by example, you will help elevate the overall engineering capabilities within the data team and across the company.
• The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of distributed systems, data modeling techniques, and various database technologies (SQL and NoSQL). Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and their data services is essential. Familiarity with data processing frameworks like Spark, Flink, or Kafka, and experience with data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) will be highly valued.
• You will be instrumental in ensuring our data infrastructure is not only performant and scalable but also adheres to the stringent regulatory requirements of the financial industry, contributing to MoonPay's reputation for trust and compliance.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience as a Staff or Senior Data Engineer with a strong track record of designing, building, and maintaining complex, scalable data platforms and pipelines.
• Deep expertise in at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, Azure) and its associated data services (e.g., S3, Redshift, EMR, Glue, Dataflow, BigQuery, Databricks).
• Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data engineering, such as Python, Scala, or Java, and extensive experience with SQL.
• Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, data modeling techniques (e.g., Kimball, Inmon), and experience with distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Flink).
• Experience with real-time data streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis) and message queues.
