📋 Description

• As a Staff Data Scientist at Magic Eden, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the data foundation for Dicey, the company’s innovative crypto casino and sportsbook platform targeting the $180B+ iGaming market. Your work will directly influence product strategy, business decisions, and risk mitigation in a fast-moving, high-impact environment where analytical rigor meets entrepreneurial drive.
• You will own the end-to-end data and metrics function for Dicey’s casino and/or sports product, establishing frameworks from the ground up to support scalable growth, user insights, and operational integrity in a nascent but rapidly evolving Web3 gaming vertical.
• Day to day, you will define and develop key performance metrics across user acquisition, retention, engagement, and monetization—specifically tracking GGR (Gross Gaming Revenue), NGR (Net Gaming Revenue), hold percentage, rakeback, and incentive effectiveness to measure product health and guide optimization.
• You will build proactive risk monitoring and alerting systems designed to detect fraudulent behavior, bonus abuse, collusion, and other anomalies in real time, enabling rapid response before risks scale and impact platform integrity or compliance.
• You will partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Business Development teams to translate complex data insights into actionable recommendations that drive feature prioritization, go-to-market strategies, and business model refinements.
• You will develop rigorous, auditable accounting and metric definitions—such as deposit bonus NGR calculations and affiliate payout logic—to ensure consistency, transparency, and alignment across finance, product, and operations teams.
• You will work across both casino and sports workstreams, adapting your analytical focus to shifting business priorities, whether modeling rewards progression systems, analyzing sportsbook margins, or optimizing user lifetime value (LTV) strategies.
• You will present findings and strategic recommendations clearly and persuasively to cross-functional stakeholders, including founders and senior leadership, using data storytelling to influence decisions and align teams around shared objectives.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in Data Science or Analytics, with proven expertise in iGaming, crypto casino, or sports betting domains
• Deep understanding of core gaming metrics including GGR, NGR, hold percentage, rakeback, and bonus structures, with ability to define what 'good' looks like in this industry
• Experience designing and implementing risk monitoring frameworks and anomaly detection systems for fraud, abuse, or exploit prevention in high-transaction environments
• Advanced SQL proficiency and strong programming skills in Python or R, with hands-on experience building and maintaining reliable data pipelines
• Exceptional communication and influence skills, capable of translating technical insights into clear, actionable recommendations for product, engineering, and business stakeholders
• Operator mindset: thrives in fast-paced, zero-to-one environments, adapts quickly to shifting priorities, and drives results with autonomy and initiative
