đź“‹ Description

  • • As a Staff Engineer on the Ads Trust, Fraud and Safety team at Reddit, you will be the primary technical driver for building a robust, automated ecosystem that protects users and advertisers by detecting and preventing deceptive ads, malware, phishing, scams, and billing fraud. Your work will directly contribute to brand suitability, ads integrity, and revenue growth by ensuring a safe and trustworthy advertising environment across Reddit’s 100,000+ active communities and 126 million daily active unique visitors.
  • • Day to day, you will steer high-leverage projects, architect a 2+ year technical roadmap for fraud detection systems, build scalable backend services using Go and Python, amplify team performance through mentorship and collaboration, and evolve your expertise by staying current with industry trends in fraud detection and adversarial machine learning. You will lead full lifecycle development of critical systems, from concept to delivery, while working cross-functionally with Ad Review, Billing, Policy, Legal, and Product teams.
  • • You will join the Ad Safety Engineering team, a growing group focused on user safety and advertiser trust through automated ad review, brand safety controls, and third-party verification integrations. The team is centralizing fraud counter-measures to detect coordinated malicious activity and pre-empt threats, operating within Reddit’s mission to foster open, authentic conversations while maintaining platform integrity and trust.
  • • In this role, you will achieve technical leadership by setting measurable goals, driving consensus across stakeholders, and owning the long-term strategy for a critical function in the Ads organization. You will grow as a force multiplier—combining deep coding expertise with strategic influence—to mentor engineers, shape platform architecture, and deliver high-impact systems that scale with Reddit’s marketplace while upholding the highest standards of safety and reliability.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 7+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of leading large-scale technical projects requiring cross-team and cross-functional collaboration
  • • Strong experience in large-scale distributed systems and developing highly scalable and reliable backend services
  • • Expertise in at least one general-purpose programming language (e.g., Go, Python, Scala, Java, or C++) and ability to grow expertise in Python and Go
  • • Demonstrated ability to disambiguate complex problems, align stakeholders with different priorities, and aggressively prioritize to execute effectively
  • • Excellent communication skills to drive consensus, navigate disagreements, and influence decisions across the engineering organization
  • • A bias for action: ability to identify what needs to be done, take initiative without waiting for direction, and see tasks through to completion
