Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Own the end-to-end verification and validation of Shield AI’s full aircraft software stack—autonomy, flight-controller, and ground-control-system—ensuring every line of code is battle-ready before it ever leaves the lab.
  • • Architect and execute mission-level test scenarios that replicate the chaos of real-world operations: GPS-denied environments, comms dropouts, sensor degradation, and adversarial interference, guaranteeing our V-BAT aircraft behaves flawlessly when lives depend on it.
  • • Build and continuously evolve a state-of-the-art test infrastructure that fuses hardware-in-the-loop rigs, vehicle-in-the-loop labs, and cloud-scale simulation farms into a single, push-button pipeline that delivers nightly qualification reports to every engineer.
  • • Design automated integration test harnesses in Python and C++ that exercise cross-subsystem interfaces under thousands of permutations, catching regressions before they reach the flight line and shaving weeks off release cycles.
  • • Lead cross-functional test-readiness reviews with autonomy, embedded, and GCS teams, translating ambiguous operational concepts into precise, measurable acceptance criteria that map directly to DO-178C and internal safety standards.
  • • Author and maintain living test plans, traceability matrices, and release-readiness dashboards that give leadership instant visibility into quality trends, risk burn-down, and certification status across the entire Systems-Vee lifecycle.
  • • Instrument test artifacts with real-time telemetry analytics, producing performance baselines for flight-control latency, mission-planning accuracy, and swarm-coordination efficiency that feed directly into engineering OKRs.
  • • Troubleshoot the gnarliest integration failures—race conditions between autonomy and flight controller, timing drift in sensor fusion, or memory leaks in mission replanning—using gdb, Wireshark, and custom Python analyzers to root-cause issues down to the bit.
  • • Mentor junior test engineers and software developers on test-first design, property-based testing, and statistical validation techniques, raising the quality bar across the organization.
  • • Champion a culture of relentless automation, eliminating manual test steps wherever possible and freeing human creativity for exploratory testing at the edge cases that machines can’t yet imagine.
  • • Partner with flight-test pilots and field operators to translate observed mission anomalies into new regression tests, closing the loop between operational feedback and continuous improvement.
  • • Present monthly quality insights to the executive team, translating technical debt, risk exposure, and certification readiness into actionable business decisions that keep programs on schedule and under budget.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 6–7+ years testing complex, safety-critical software systems—ideally robotics, aerospace, or autonomous vehicles—with a B.S. (M.S./Ph.D. preferred) in CS, Systems Engineering, or related STEM field.
  • • Demonstrated mastery of test automation in Python and C++, including CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and artifact management (Artifactory or similar).
  • • Proven ability to design and execute elaborate, model-based test campaigns that span simulation, HIL, and real-world environments.
  • • Strong mathematical foundation for analyzing aircraft physics, control theory, and sensor-fusion algorithms.
  • • Experience producing rigorous technical documentation: test plans, traceability matrices, qualification reports, and release-readiness dashboards.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Competitive base salary of $150K–$225K plus annual performance bonus and meaningful equity in a venture-backed deep-tech leader.
  • • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance from day one, plus 401(k) with company match and flexible PTO.
  • • Relocation assistance to the vibrant Dallas Metro Area and eligibility for future internal mobility across nine global offices.
  • • Continuous learning stipend, conference attendance, and access to cutting-edge autonomy labs and flight-test ranges.
