📋 Description

• Staff Engineer, Trust & Safety role focused on building and evolving systems for fraud detection, risk decisioning, abuse prevention, and internal tooling to protect Givebutter’s platform and empower nonprofit changemakers.
• Day-to-day responsibilities include designing and implementing fraud detection systems, building investigation tooling for operations teams, hardening payment infrastructure, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with product, operations, and leadership to prioritize Trust & Safety initiatives.
• Givebutter is a mission-driven nonprofit fundraising and CRM platform certified as a Great Place to Work® since 2021, empowering millions of changemakers with free, transparent tools to raise funds, manage donors, and run events—all in one place.
• In this role, you will deepen your expertise in adversarial systems, influence technical direction across teams, and make a tangible impact on platform safety while working with inspiring organizations driving social good.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with meaningful time in adversarial domains such as fraud, trust & safety, risk, or abuse prevention
• Experience building fraud detection or risk decisioning systems including rule engines, scoring systems, policy frameworks, or investigation platforms
• Strong backend engineering fundamentals with ability to design scalable, event-driven systems and debug production issues across multiple stack layers
• Collaborative influence: experience driving technical initiatives across teams and stakeholders, building consensus, and working through ambiguity
• Good judgment and prioritization: ability to break down vague problems into concrete plans with clear next steps
