Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Embed directly with utility customers — primarily small, member-owned and rural electric cooperatives — and energy hardware manufacturers to drive software adoption from kickoff through production, managing 3–5 concurrent customer accounts at a time.
- • Own end-to-end software delivery for customer-specific needs, including integrating data from new meters, sensors, and OEM devices into Texture’s platform, with no one-off solutions — instead, design reusable reference architectures that scale across the customer base.
- • Build and maintain production-grade features such as energy-accounting systems, bill-credit reporting tools, and behavioral demand-response programs that use SMS to influence customer energy usage without deploying physical hardware.
- • Design and implement data pipelines and infrastructure to support new customer use cases, including standing up secure connectivity solutions like VPN tunnels for on-prem utility-scale battery systems.
- • Serve as the primary technical liaison on customer calls, translating complex software requirements into clear, actionable outcomes for non-technical utility staff who lack dedicated engineering teams.
- • Lead technical assessments for new customer opportunities, analyzing unfamiliar data classes (e.g., geothermal systems) to determine whether they represent a platform fit, a services-only engagement, or a new data class requiring reference architecture development.
- • Share on-call responsibility for production systems you build, ensuring reliability and responsiveness to real-time grid operations needs.
- • Collaborate directly with the CTO and engineering team to self-specify work, define technical scope, and prioritize initiatives without relying on product managers or formal specs.
- • Conduct landscape analyses of vendor ecosystems and control mechanisms for emerging energy technologies to guide commercial decisions on product expansion.
- • Drive the creation of reusable patterns and standards that turn one-off customer requests into scalable platform capabilities, enabling Texture to serve future clients with minimal incremental engineering effort.
- • Travel approximately one multi-day site visit per month on average to meet customers in person, with travel increasing as the customer base grows.
- • Communicate technical concepts clearly to stakeholders with no software background, adapting explanations until understanding is achieved — this is a core, load-bearing responsibility of the role.
- • Work across backend systems, DevOps infrastructure, data engineering, and light data science to solve customer problems, with no expectation of deep expertise in all areas but a requirement for judgment and willingness to learn.
- • Operate independently with high autonomy, owning ambiguity and making decisions without detailed specifications or oversight.
- • Contribute to product direction by identifying patterns across customer needs and proposing platform enhancements that solve broader industry challenges.
- • Maintain production ownership of shipped code, ensuring it meets reliability, security, and scalability standards for critical energy grid operations.
🎯 Requirements
- • 10+ years of engineering experience with a track record of shipping production systems independently
- • Proven ability to operate autonomously in ambiguous environments without requiring detailed specs or PM oversight
- • Exceptional communication skills, particularly in translating technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- • Breadth across engineering domains including backend integration, DevOps/infrastructure, and data engineering
- • Strong judgment in assessing technical feasibility and scalability of customer requirements
- • Curiosity about energy systems and willingness to learn industry-specific terminology and challenges
🏖️ Benefits
- • Annual base salary of $225,000 – $245,000
- • Equity of 0.08 – 0.12% common stock options
- • Full coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance
- • 401(k) plan with company contribution
- • Flexible PTO policy
