Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Serve as a technical leader for AtomEngine, Onebrief’s proprietary cloud-based game engine, defining its technical vision and architectural direction to support simulation, AI, and modeling capabilities across the organization.
  • • Own and drive the design and evolution of core engine systems including runtime, editor tooling, performance infrastructure, and platform scalability to ensure long-term extensibility and performance.
  • • Establish and champion engineering standards, architectural principles, and development best practices across the entire engine codebase to improve maintainability and developer productivity.
  • • Lead complex, cross-functional technical initiatives that span simulation, AI, platform, and product engineering teams, aligning stakeholders and driving execution from concept through delivery.
  • • Identify and prioritize high-leverage investments that enhance engine performance, reliability, scalability, and developer workflows in large, distributed codebases.
  • • Partner closely with engineering leadership and cross-functional teams to balance short-term product delivery needs with long-term platform strategy and technical debt reduction.
  • • Proactively identify architectural bottlenecks, technical risks, and scaling challenges, developing pragmatic, forward-looking strategies to mitigate them before they impede growth.
  • • Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers through design reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing to elevate team capabilities and foster a culture of excellence.
  • • Ensure AtomEngine remains performant and scalable as the platform evolves to support increasing complexity in military simulations and modeling applications.
  • • Contribute to the development of developer tooling and asset pipelines that enable multiple teams to build effectively on the engine platform.
  • • Maintain deep technical ownership of game engine subsystems including rendering, ECS frameworks, data-oriented design, and runtime systems.
  • • Ship and support complex live-service products with high availability and reliability requirements in a production environment.
  • • Communicate technical tradeoffs clearly to non-technical stakeholders and translate organizational priorities into actionable engineering roadmaps.
  • • Collaborate with teams working alongside military commands to ensure engine capabilities meet operational and mission-critical requirements.
  • • Drive adoption of modern game engine technologies and patterns, leveraging experience with Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, or equivalent platforms to inform AtomEngine’s evolution.
  • • Balance rapid iteration and delivery with sustainable engineering practices to maximize both engineering velocity and system health over time.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 9+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience developing game engines, simulation platforms, or other performance-critical systems
  • • Demonstrated experience owning the architecture and technical direction of large-scale engine, platform, or infrastructure systems
  • • Deep understanding of game engine architecture, including rendering, ECS frameworks, data-oriented design, tooling, asset pipelines, or runtime systems
  • • U.S. Citizenship is required due to federal contract requirements
  • • Proven track record leading complex technical initiatives that require alignment across multiple teams and stakeholders
  • • Strong experience optimizing performance, scalability, reliability, and developer workflows in large codebases

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Work as part of an all-remote company with a team spanning veterans from all military forces and technologists from leading-edge software companies
  • • Contribute to a $2.15B-valued company backed by top-tier investors including Battery Ventures, General Catalyst, Sapphire Ventures, Insight Partners, and Human Capital
  • • Apply state-of-the-art innovations from the video game industry to build the future of military simulations and modeling
  • • Opportunity to work alongside customers at military commands around the world
