đź“‹ Description
- • Join Grafana Labs, a leading open-source powerhouse with over 20 million users worldwide, and contribute to the cutting edge of mobile observability.
- • As a Staff Mobile Engineer specializing in Instrumentation SDKs for iOS and Android, you will play a pivotal role in building and evolving the core components that power our mobile observability solutions.
- • This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of how mobile applications are monitored, ensuring developers have deep insights into their users' experiences and application performance.
- • You will be responsible for designing, developing, and shipping high-performance, low-overhead SDKs that capture critical mobile signals including traces, metrics, logs, crashes, and user sessions.
- • A key focus will be on seamless integration with OpenTelemetry, a globally recognized standard for telemetry data, and Grafana Cloud, our fully managed observability platform.
- • Your work will directly impact the ability of thousands of companies, from startups to enterprises like Bloomberg and JPMorgan Chase, to achieve true full-stack visibility.
- • You will own projects end-to-end, taking initiative from initial concept through to successful deployment and iteration.
- • This involves breaking down complex, ambiguous problems into manageable, incremental deliverables, designing modular and scalable solutions, and shipping Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) to gather feedback and iterate rapidly.
- • Ensuring the quality and reliability of the SDKs is paramount. This includes implementing comprehensive automated tests, establishing robust Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines, creating clear and concise documentation, and managing smooth, backwards-compatible upgrade paths for our users.
- • You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including backend engineers, frontend developers, product managers, and solutions engineers, to ensure our mobile observability solutions are cohesive and integrate seamlessly into broader observability workflows.
- • As part of an open-source-centric company, you will actively engage with the open-source community, reviewing pull requests, participating in design discussions, and guiding external contributors to foster a collaborative and innovative ecosystem.
- • You will have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers, contribute to technical design discussions, and play a significant role in shaping the future roadmap for mobile observability at Grafana Labs.
- • We champion developer productivity and provide access to modern AI coding assistants, backed by a company-funded budget, to accelerate prototyping, test generation, refactoring, and documentation, all while maintaining rigorous code review and quality standards.
- • You will leverage frontier AI models to enhance your daily workflow and drive innovation.
- • This role requires a motivated self-starter with a strong bias for action, capable of operating autonomously while maintaining a highly collaborative spirit.
- • You will be instrumental in building and maintaining mobile SDKs, platform libraries, or other developer-facing platform code that is utilized by external developers.
- • Experience with performance-sensitive code, including optimizing startup time, memory usage, and network efficiency, along with the ability to make pragmatic trade-offs, is essential.
- • Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, including its instrumentation, SDKs, and collectors, or direct experience contributing to or maintaining similar telemetry libraries, will be highly valued.
- • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are crucial for effective collaboration and community engagement.
- • You will be comfortable and effective working within a fully remote, globally distributed team environment.
- • A coachable, customer-focused mindset with a passion for improving the developer experience is key. Beyond coding, you will contribute to documentation, mentor colleagues, and influence product direction.
- • Pragmatism and comfort navigating ambiguity are essential, prioritizing progress and iterative improvement based on feedback over perfection.
- • Bonus points for contributions to OpenTelemetry, crash reporting libraries, or other observability open-source projects, experience with cross-platform frameworks like React Native or Flutter, mobile security/privacy expertise, or prior work on mobile telemetry features like crash aggregation or session replay.
