đź“‹ Description

  • • As a Staff Mobile Engineer specializing in Instrumentation SDKs for Observability at Grafana Labs, you will be at the forefront of developing critical components that power full-stack visibility for mobile applications. This role is instrumental in shaping the future of mobile telemetry, ensuring that developers can seamlessly integrate their mobile data with backend and infrastructure metrics, logs, and traces.
  • • You will be responsible for building and continuously evolving high-performance, low-overhead SDKs for both iOS (Swift/Objective-C) and Android (Kotlin/Java). The primary focus will be on delivering exceptional stability and a superior developer experience, making it easy for teams to instrument their mobile applications.
  • • Your work will involve designing and implementing key SDK features. This includes, but is not limited to, robust session tracking, comprehensive crash reporting mechanisms, intelligent sampling strategies to manage data volume, automatic context propagation for seamless tracing, and deep integrations with OpenTelemetry standards.
  • • You will own projects from conception to delivery, demonstrating a strong ability to manage the entire lifecycle of a feature or product component. This involves breaking down complex, ambiguous problems into manageable, incremental deliverables.
  • • A core part of your role will be to design modular solutions, ship Minimum Viable Products (MVPs), actively gather user feedback, and iterate rapidly to refine and enhance the SDKs.
  • • Ensuring the highest quality of the SDKs is paramount. This includes implementing comprehensive automated tests, establishing robust Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines, creating clear and thorough documentation, and managing smooth, backwards-compatible upgrade paths for users.
  • • You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including backend engineers, frontend developers, product managers, and solutions engineers. This collaboration is essential to ensure that the mobile observability solutions integrate seamlessly into the broader Grafana observability ecosystem, providing a cohesive end-to-end experience.
  • • As part of an open-source company, you will actively engage with the global open-source community. This involves reviewing Pull Requests (PRs) from external contributors, participating in design discussions, and helping to guide the community's direction for mobile observability.
  • • You will play a key role in mentoring junior engineers, contributing to technical design discussions, and actively shaping the strategic roadmap for mobile observability at Grafana Labs.
  • • Grafana Labs heavily invests in developer productivity. You will have the opportunity to leverage modern AI coding assistants as part of your daily workflow, with the freedom to choose your preferred tools (within security guidelines) and a company-funded usage budget to accelerate your development cycles.
  • • You will be encouraged to adopt a pragmatic approach to AI-assisted development, utilizing these tools for faster prototyping, automated test generation, code refactoring, documentation creation, and incident follow-ups, always maintaining strong code review practices and quality standards.
  • • Access to frontier AI models, such as GPT-Codex 5/3, Claude Opus 4.6, and Gemini 3 Pro, will be available to support your work.
  • • This is a fully remote opportunity, and you will be comfortable working within a globally distributed team, contributing to a culture of transparency, autonomy, and trust.
  • • You will be expected to be a motivated self-starter with a strong bias toward action, capable of taking on loosely defined scopes and operating autonomously while maintaining high levels of collaboration.
  • • Your work will directly impact millions of users who rely on Grafana for their observability needs, contributing to the company's mission of making complex data understandable and actionable.
  • • You will be instrumental in ensuring that mobile applications are not treated as black boxes, but are fully integrated into the observability landscape, providing developers with the insights they need to build and maintain reliable, high-performing applications.
  • • The role requires a deep understanding of mobile development best practices, performance optimization techniques, and a passion for creating tools that empower other developers.
  • • You will be a key contributor to Grafana Labs' open-source strategy, helping to foster community engagement and drive innovation in the observability space.
  • • Your contributions will help Grafana Labs solidify its position as a leader in the observability market, offering a comprehensive suite of tools for metrics, logs, and traces across the entire technology stack.
  • • This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, with a strong emphasis on open-source principles and developer empowerment.
