- • As a Staff Mobile Engineer specializing in Instrumentation SDKs for Observability at Grafana Labs, you will be at the forefront of building critical components that empower mobile developers to gain deep insights into their applications' performance and user experience.
- • This role is pivotal in shaping the future of mobile observability, focusing on the development of high-performance, low-overhead SDKs for both iOS (Swift/Objective-C) and Android (Kotlin/Java).
- • Your primary responsibility will be to design, build, and evolve these SDKs, ensuring they are robust, stable, and offer an exceptional developer experience, integrating seamlessly with the broader Grafana Observability suite.
- • You will be instrumental in developing key SDK features, including sophisticated session tracking mechanisms, reliable crash reporting, intelligent sampling strategies to manage data volume, automatic context propagation for seamless trace correlation, and deep integrations with the OpenTelemetry standard.
- • This position demands end-to-end ownership of projects, from initial concept and design through to implementation, testing, and deployment, ensuring a cohesive and powerful observability solution.
- • A core aspect of your work will involve tackling large, ambiguous problems by breaking them down into manageable, incremental deliverables. This includes designing modular and scalable solutions, shipping Minimum Viable Products (MVPs), actively gathering user feedback, and iterating rapidly to refine features.
- • You will be responsible for upholding the highest standards of quality through comprehensive automated testing, robust Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines, clear and thorough documentation, and ensuring smooth, backwards-compatible upgrade paths for users of the SDKs.
- • Collaboration is key in this role. You will work closely with backend, frontend, product management, and solutions engineering teams to guarantee that mobile observability workflows are perfectly integrated with the rest of the Grafana ecosystem, providing true full-stack visibility.
- • As part of an open-source-centric company, you will actively engage with the global open-source community. This includes reviewing pull requests, participating in design discussions, and providing guidance to external contributors, helping to foster a vibrant and collaborative development environment.
- • You will also play a significant role in mentoring junior engineers, contributing to technical design discussions, and actively shaping the strategic roadmap for mobile observability at Grafana Labs.
- • Grafana Labs champions developer productivity, and you will leverage modern AI coding assistants as part of your daily workflow, with a company-funded budget for tools, enabling rapid iteration and innovation within security guidelines.
- • You will be encouraged to adopt a pragmatic approach to AI-assisted development, utilizing these tools for faster prototyping, efficient test generation, streamlined refactoring, improved documentation, and quicker incident follow-ups, always maintaining strong code review practices and quality standards.
- • Access to frontier AI models will be provided, allowing you to explore and implement cutting-edge solutions.
- • The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with a strong bias for action, capable of navigating and defining scope in ambiguous situations, and can operate autonomously while maintaining a highly collaborative spirit.
- • You will contribute to a culture that values pragmatism, customer focus, and a passion for enhancing the developer experience, extending your impact beyond coding to include documentation, mentorship, and strategic roadmap input.
- • The role requires comfort and effectiveness in a fully remote, globally distributed team environment, contributing to a culture of transparency, autonomy, and trust.
- • You will be part of an organization that is scaling rapidly, offering the opportunity to tackle meaningful work in a dynamic and evolving landscape, contributing to the success of a leading open-source observability platform.
- • This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the direction of mobile observability tools used by millions of developers worldwide, making a tangible impact on how applications are monitored and understood.
- • You will be empowered to make pragmatic trade-offs, balancing performance requirements with development velocity and user needs, ensuring the delivery of reliable and efficient software at scale.
- • The role encourages continuous learning and adaptation, staying abreast of the latest trends in mobile development, observability, and open-source technologies.
- • You will contribute to a product that is used by a vast global community, including major enterprises, highlighting the significance and reach of your work.
- • The emphasis on open standards and developer experience means you'll be building tools that are not only powerful but also accessible and easy to integrate, fostering wider adoption and community contribution.
- • Your work will directly support Grafana Labs' mission to make observability accessible to everyone, from individual developers to large organizations, by providing essential building blocks for mobile application monitoring.
- • You will be a key player in ensuring the Grafana LGTM Stack (Logs, Infrastructure, Traces, Metrics) provides comprehensive, end-to-end visibility, with mobile being a critical piece of that puzzle.
- • The opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to a highly respected open-source project makes this a career-defining role for passionate mobile engineers.
- • You will be part of a company that values its employees, offering opportunities for growth, learning, and making a significant impact in the observability space.
