đź“‹ Description

  • • Join Grafana Labs, a leading remote-first, open-source powerhouse, and contribute to the evolution of our cutting-edge Grafana Observability suite. With over 20 million users worldwide, Grafana is instrumental in monitoring diverse systems, from environmental data to critical infrastructure. Our mission is to provide comprehensive observability solutions that span applications, infrastructure, databases, browsers, and mobile devices.
  • • As a Staff Mobile Engineer specializing in Instrumentation SDKs for iOS and Android, you will play a pivotal role in developing and enhancing the core components that power our mobile observability initiatives. This includes building high-performance, low-overhead SDKs designed to capture crucial mobile signals such as traces, metrics, logs, crashes, and user sessions.
  • • Your primary focus will be on crafting robust and efficient SDKs for both iOS (Swift/Objective-C) and Android (Kotlin/Java) platforms. You will be responsible for designing and implementing features that are critical for mobile application monitoring, including advanced session tracking, reliable crash reporting mechanisms, intelligent sampling strategies to manage data volume, seamless automatic context propagation across distributed systems, and deep integration with OpenTelemetry standards.
  • • This role offers the unique opportunity to own projects end-to-end, from initial concept and design through to implementation, testing, and deployment. You will be expected to tackle large, ambiguous problems, breaking them down into manageable, incremental deliverables. This involves designing modular and scalable solutions, shipping Minimum Viable Products (MVPs), actively gathering feedback from users and stakeholders, and iterating rapidly to refine and improve the SDKs.
  • • Ensuring the highest quality of our SDKs is paramount. This includes establishing and maintaining comprehensive automated testing frameworks, implementing robust Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines, creating clear and thorough documentation for developers, and ensuring smooth, backwards-compatible upgrade paths for our users. Your work will directly impact the developer experience and the reliability of observability data collected from mobile applications.
  • • Collaboration is key to our success. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including backend engineers, frontend developers, product managers, and solutions engineers, to ensure a cohesive and integrated end-to-end observability workflow. This collaborative environment will allow you to contribute to a holistic view of system performance and user experience.
  • • As part of an open-source company, you will actively engage with the global developer community. This includes reviewing Pull Requests (PRs) from external contributors, participating in design discussions, and helping to guide the direction of our open-source projects. Your contributions will help foster a vibrant and collaborative ecosystem around Grafana Observability.
  • • You will also have opportunities to mentor junior engineers, share your expertise in technical design discussions, and play a significant role in shaping the future roadmap for our mobile observability offerings. Your insights and experience will be invaluable in guiding our strategic decisions and technical direction.
  • • We are committed to empowering our engineers with modern tools. You will have the opportunity to leverage AI coding assistants as part of your daily workflow, with a company-funded budget for your chosen tools, enabling rapid iteration and development within security guidelines. We encourage pragmatic AI-assisted development for faster prototyping, test generation, refactoring, documentation, and incident response, always complemented by rigorous code reviews and quality standards. Access to frontier AI models will further enhance your productivity and innovation capabilities.
  • • This role is ideal for a motivated self-starter who thrives in a dynamic, remote-first environment. You should possess a strong bias towards action and the ability to navigate and define unclear scopes. While autonomy is encouraged, a highly collaborative spirit is essential for success within our globally distributed team. Your passion for developer experience and commitment to shipping reliable, high-performance software will be critical to your impact.
