Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • We are on a mission to build a developer-loved observability platform, a critical tool for modern software development. As we continue to grow and handle ever-increasing volumes of telemetry data, we are seeking a highly experienced Staff Product Engineer, Backend (Go) to join our Intelligent Edge team. This is a pivotal role where you will not only contribute to the technical execution but also define the architectural vision for our backend systems, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and efficient.
- • Your primary focus will be on extending and evolving our telemetry ingestion and processing pipelines. This involves tackling complex challenges such as reducing noise in large OpenTelemetry setups, a common pain point for developers managing extensive telemetry data. You will be instrumental in driving the reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency of our entire platform, directly impacting the experience of our users and the operational effectiveness of our services.
- • As a Staff-level engineer, you will be granted significant ownership over the technical direction of your domain. This means you will have a strong influence not just within the engineering team but also in shaping product strategy and roadmap discussions. You will be empowered to make key architectural decisions and guide the team towards best practices.
- • Key responsibilities will include architecting and scaling high-throughput ingestion and processing pipelines. This requires a deep understanding of distributed systems and the ability to design solutions that can handle massive amounts of data without compromising performance or availability.
- • You will be responsible for designing distributed backend systems that are inherently resilient, with no single points of failure. This involves meticulous planning and execution to ensure that our platform remains available and performant even under extreme load or in the face of component failures.
- • Driving architectural decisions for massive scale and platform reliability will be a core part of your role. You will need to anticipate future needs, evaluate emerging technologies, and make strategic choices that set the foundation for long-term success.
- • Processing, aggregating, sampling, and manipulating telemetry data at scale is another critical aspect. You will develop and implement strategies to manage the vast quantities of data we receive, ensuring that it is processed efficiently and effectively to provide valuable insights to our customers.
- • Owning platform reliability is paramount. This means proactively identifying potential risks, implementing robust monitoring and alerting systems, and continuously improving the resilience of our services. You will be the go-to person for ensuring our backend systems are stable and dependable.
- • You will also play a crucial role in defining and enforcing standards for code quality, testing, and observability. This includes establishing best practices, conducting code reviews, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement to ensure high-quality, maintainable code.
- • Mentoring other engineers and raising the technical bar across teams is an essential part of this role. You will share your expertise, guide junior engineers, and foster a collaborative environment where knowledge is readily exchanged.
- • Partnering closely with the Product Management team to shape the product roadmap is vital. You will contribute your technical insights to product strategy, helping to balance ambitious technical goals with business objectives and market demands.
- • This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies in the observability space, solve challenging distributed systems problems, and make a significant impact on a rapidly growing platform. You will be at the forefront of innovation, helping to define the future of how developers understand and manage their systems.
🎯 Requirements
- • Deep architectural expertise in building and scaling distributed backend systems, with a proven track record of designing and implementing complex, high-availability solutions.
- • Strong hands-on experience with Go (Golang), demonstrating proficiency in writing efficient, maintainable, and scalable Go code.
- • Proven experience designing and scaling high-throughput ingestion and processing pipelines, capable of handling massive data volumes.
- • Solid understanding of distributed systems trade-offs, including consistency, availability, partition tolerance, latency, and throughput.
- • Demonstrable experience in preventing single points of failure and architecting for high availability and fault tolerance.
- • Strong knowledge of Kafka and other messaging systems, including their patterns and best practices for large-scale deployments.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary and equity (stock options), reflecting your experience and the impact you'll make.
- • Fully remote role, offering flexibility and the ability to work from anywhere within the EU.
- • High-impact, staff-level ownership of platform architecture, providing significant influence and autonomy.
- • Opportunity to work on large-scale distributed systems and complex observability challenges.
- • Collaborative, high-trust engineering culture that values innovation, learning, and mutual respect.
