- • As a Staff Research Engineer in Voice + Speech at Decagon, you will lead the development of models and algorithms that power real-time voice agents for enterprise customer experiences, driving research from prototype to production impact.
- • Day to day, you will lead research and engineering efforts to improve conversational capabilities such as instruction following, retrieval, memory, and long-horizon task completion; build and iterate on end-to-end models and pipelines optimizing for quality, efficiency, and user experience; partner with platform and product engineers to integrate new models into production systems; break down ambiguous research ideas into clear milestones and roadmaps; and mentor researchers/engineers while establishing technical direction and best practices.
- • You will join Decagon’s Research team, which develops the model and decision-making stack powering conversational agents for enterprise support, focusing on advancing applied conversational AI through state-of-the-art techniques in model training, prompting, orchestration, and evaluation.
- • In this role, you will achieve measurable production impact by advancing speech understanding, naturalness, turn-taking, and resilience in real-world conditions, while growing as a technical leader in a high-velocity, in-office environment guided by Decagon’s values of innovation and execution.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering or research
- • Prior experience post-training and deploying LLMs in production environments
- • Fluency in Python and modern ML tooling (training, evaluation, data pipelines)
- • Track record of taking research ideas from prototype → reliable, measurable production impact
- • Ability to define a roadmap, break ambiguity into milestones, and lead cross-functional execution
