Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As a Staff/Senior Engineer on the Citizen Developers Infrastructure team at Airwallex, you will play a pivotal role in enabling non-engineering teams across the organization to safely build, deploy, and manage automation and internal applications through a secure, scalable internal platform. Your work directly impacts operational efficiency by reducing reliance on central engineering teams and accelerating time-to-value for business-critical workflows.
- • You will design, build, and evolve the core platform services that power Airwallex’s citizen-developer ecosystem, focusing on creating intuitive abstractions, robust guardrails, and self-service tooling that empower teams in finance, operations, and analytics to innovate safely while maintaining compliance and security standards.
- • Day to day, you will collaborate with application teams and citizen developers to understand their needs and translate them into platform capabilities, including designing APIs, defining development patterns, and improving paved paths that reduce complexity and increase adoption.
- • You will establish and enforce secure software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices, ensuring that all citizen-built applications adhere to security, compliance, and operational best practices by default through automated guardrails, policy-as-code, and runtime safeguards.
- • You will build and maintain self-serve development and operations tooling—such as CI/CD pipelines, local development environments, monitoring dashboards, and debugging utilities—that minimize dependency on platform engineers and enable teams to own the full lifecycle of their automations.
- • You will design, operate, and scale the Temporal-based workflow infrastructure, addressing complex challenges like multi-tenancy, fault tolerance, high availability, and cost optimization to ensure reliable execution of thousands of workflows across the organization.
- • You will contribute to and enhance the Kubernetes and GitOps foundation (using ArgoCD, Helm, and Terraform) that underpins the platform, ensuring that deployments are repeatable, auditable, and resilient, with strong emphasis on infrastructure-as-code and progressive delivery.
- • You will actively participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and on-call rotations for workflow-related services, leading incident response efforts, conducting root cause analysis, and driving long-term improvements to system reliability and performance.
- • You will document platform standards, best practices, and reference architectures, creating clear, accessible guidance that enables citizen developers to succeed independently while aligning with engineering excellence and organizational policies.
- • You will work in a highly collaborative, multi-team environment, translating technical constraints into clear contracts and paved paths, mentoring peers, and advocating for developer experience as a first-class concern across the platform.
- • The Citizen Developers Infrastructure team is part of Airwallex’s broader Infrastructure & Productivity organization, which focuses on maximizing engineering velocity and organizational impact through shared platforms, automation, and developer enablement.
- • Airwallex is a globally scaled fintech unicorn valued at US$8 billion, serving over 200,000 businesses with a unified payments and financial platform, and backed by top-tier investors including Sequoia, Visa, Mastercard, and Salesforce Ventures.
- • Joining this team offers the opportunity to work on high-visibility, mission-critical infrastructure that directly enables innovation across the company, combining deep technical challenges with meaningful impact on business agility.
- • In this role, you will grow your expertise in platform engineering, workflow orchestration, cloud-native technologies, and internal developer productivity—skills that are highly transferable and increasingly valuable in modern tech organizations.
- • You will have the chance to shape the future of internal tooling at a fast-growing global company, influence engineering culture, and see your contributions adopted by hundreds of non-engineering users driving real business outcomes.
🎯 Requirements
- • 6+ years of experience in software or platform engineering, with a proven track record of building and operating backend or platform services in production environments.
- • Strong hands-on proficiency in at least one strongly typed backend language (e.g., Golang, Java), along with familiarity with Python or Bash for scripting, automation, and tooling development.
- • Demonstrated experience designing and building internal platforms or developer tooling used by multiple teams, with a clear focus on improving developer experience, usability, and adoption.
- • Practical experience with Kubernetes and GitOps practices, including working knowledge of ArgoCD for continuous delivery and Terraform for infrastructure-as-code.
- • Proven experience with Temporal or similar workflow orchestration systems (e.g., Cadence, AWS Step Functions, Apache Airflow) or large-scale stateful workloads in production is a significant advantage.
- • Prior experience building platforms or tooling for non-product engineering users—such as operations, finance, or analytics teams—or in low-code/no-code/citizen-developer environments is strongly preferred.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive compensation package including base salary and equity participation in a rapidly growing, US$8 billion-valued fintech company.
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage, supplemented by wellness programs and mental health support resources.
- • Generous paid time off, including vacation, sick leave, and company-observed holidays, plus flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance.
- • Access to continuous learning and development opportunities, including technical training, conference attendance, and internal knowledge-sharing sessions.
- • Opportunity to work with cutting-edge cloud-native technologies (Kubernetes, Temporal, ArgoCD, Terraform) in a high-scale, globally distributed environment.
- • Collaborative, inclusive culture that values ownership, curiosity, and first-principles thinking, with exposure to senior leadership and cross-functional initiatives.
