  • • As a Staff Software Engineer at Cloudera, you will be instrumental in driving innovation and maintaining the industry-leading performance of the Impala SQL Data Warehouse engine. This role is pivotal in empowering businesses to transform complex data into clear, actionable insights, supporting Fortune 500 companies across diverse industries with their analytical workloads, ranging from sub-second interactive dashboards to extensive data exploration on petabyte-scale data. You will contribute to both the open-source Impala project and its integration into Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) and Cloud Data Warehouse (CDW), tackling complex distributed systems challenges at the forefront of hybrid and multi-cloud technology.
  • • Your day-to-day responsibilities will encompass the design and implementation of sophisticated query engine components, focusing on achieving low latency and high scalability. You will take the lead on significant projects, introducing new functionalities to distributed systems and meticulously addressing critical concepts such as performance optimization, fault tolerance, and robustness. A key aspect of your role will involve designing and implementing Impala features that cater to both on-premise deployments and cloud-based environments, ensuring the engine's versatility and adaptability. You will actively contribute to enhancing software productivity, refining development processes, and improving the overall infrastructure that supports the Impala project. Collaboration will be essential as you work closely with product managers and customers to deeply understand their requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions. A significant part of your work will involve analyzing large-scale distributed systems to pinpoint performance bottlenecks, identify scalability limitations, diagnose failure points, and uncover potential security vulnerabilities, ensuring the integrity and efficiency of the platform. You will be responsible for formulating and presenting your architectural designs and technical strategies, both internally within Cloudera and externally to the broader open-source community, fostering transparency and collaboration. Furthermore, you will contribute to software productivity, process, and infrastructure improvements, aiming to streamline development and enhance team efficiency. You will also play a role in publicizing Impala's advancements and capabilities through engaging blog posts and impactful conference presentations, raising the profile of the project and the company.
