📋 Description

• As a Staff Software Engineer on Fivetran’s PostgreSQL connector team, you will play a pivotal role in enabling enterprise-grade data reliability for the world’s most data-driven organizations, ensuring seamless, secure, and scalable data pipelines that power critical analytics workloads.
• Your work will directly impact Fivetran’s mission to make data access as simple and reliable as electricity by building and maintaining the foundational infrastructure that allows thousands of companies to trust their data without engineering overhead.
• Day to day, you will lead the design, development, and debugging of intuitive enterprise capabilities tailored for Fivetran’s largest and most sophisticated customers, focusing on performance, scalability, and reliability in high-stakes data integration scenarios.
• You will manage and lead multiple complex projects simultaneously, coordinating with engineering, Customer Success, and Go-To-Market teams to align technical delivery with business objectives and ensure timely, high-quality releases in an iterative environment.
• You will maintain and improve existing enterprise features by identifying technical debt, advocating for codebase and infrastructure improvements, and driving refactoring efforts that enhance system resilience and observability.
• You will uphold rigorous standards for code quality, performance, and reliability through comprehensive testing, peer code reviews, and proactive monitoring, ensuring that every release meets Fivetran’s bar for enterprise-grade dependability.
• You will collaborate across engineering teams on cross-functional initiatives to create innovative solutions, such as enhancing Data Lakes, SQL-based Transformations, or schema exploration tools that empower analysts and extend Fivetran’s platform capabilities.
• You will work closely with Customer Success and GTM teams to diagnose and resolve complex customer issues, providing deep technical expertise to unblock critical use cases and support customer retention and expansion goals.
• You will stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating and advocating for the adoption of new tools, frameworks, and methodologies that improve development velocity, system observability, and operational excellence.
• You will participate in periodic on-call rotations to ensure rapid response to production incidents, contributing to Fivetran’s reputation as the most reliable component in customers’ data infrastructure stacks.
• You will mentor and grow junior engineers by sharing best practices, conducting code reviews, and fostering a culture of technical excellence, psychological safety, and continuous learning within the team.
• You will contribute to Fivetran’s culture of data-driven development by helping build systems that are not only functionally correct but also intuitively useful to analysts, with clean schemas and predictable behavior that reduce cognitive load and increase trust in data.
• You will help make Fivetran the most secure and dependable data infrastructure component by implementing hardening measures, improving fault tolerance, and ensuring compliance with enterprise security and reliability standards.

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with a demonstrated passion for solving complex, large-scale technical problems in enterprise environments.
• Strong expertise in object-oriented programming, with deep proficiency in Java, including advanced concepts like concurrency, memory management, and performance optimization.
• Proven track record of leading and delivering large, complicated software projects from inception to production, including defining requirements, designing architecture, and coordinating cross-functional teams.
• Solid understanding of database systems, particularly PostgreSQL, with hands-on experience in query performance tuning, indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, and transaction isolation levels.
• Experience writing clean, well-structured, and performant code that adheres to industry best practices and is maintainable at scale.
• Ability to interpret customer requirements and pain points, translating them into actionable engineering tasks and technical solutions that deliver measurable business value.
• Skill in diving into legacy or complex codebases to identify inefficiencies, suggest improvements, and implement changes that enhance system performance, reliability, or scalability.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to detect design flaws, anticipate failure modes, and drive systemic improvements in existing systems and processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, enabling clear articulation of technical concepts to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
• Familiarity with observability tools such as New Relic or Grafana is a plus, particularly for monitoring system health, latency, and error rates in production.
• Experience with continuous integration and delivery systems like Buildkite, CircleCI, or similar platforms, including pipeline configuration, test automation, and deployment orchestration.
• Proven experience working in cloud-native environments using AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, or equivalent technologies, including infrastructure-as-code and container orchestration.
