Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Build and ship production-grade AI-powered investigative agents as part of Nightshift, a conversational AI system used by law enforcement to surface evidence, reason across complex data, and close cases faster.
- • Own end-to-end development of backend systems that enable AI products to operate reliably on Flock’s large-scale data platform, ensuring scalability, safety, and performance.
- • Improve agent reliability through rigorous testing, evaluation frameworks, and observability tools like Langfuse, identifying and fixing recurring failure patterns in real-world use cases.
- • Design and implement agentic workflows using tools such as LangChain, CrewAI, OpenAI SDK, or Claude Agents SDK to enhance decision-making capabilities of AI agents in high-stakes investigative environments.
- • Collaborate with a small, senior engineering team that blends application development and ML testing expertise to accelerate the development of AI-driven customer experiences.
- • Architect and contribute to reusable AI platform capabilities that other product teams at Flock can leverage to build their own AI-powered features.
- • Translate real-world investigative workflows from law enforcement customers into technical requirements and engineering direction, serving as a credible technical voice between stakeholders and engineers.
- • Drive architectural improvements across teams, influencing design decisions, conducting design reviews, and mentoring engineers through pairing, PR reviews, and technical guidance.
- • Build infrastructure to enable faster iteration cycles for AI agents, including systems for reproducibility, evaluation, debugging, and safe deployment of behavioral changes.
- • Immerse in customer data including call transcripts, chat logs, production traces, and support feedback to deeply understand where the agent succeeds and fails, using insights to guide technical priorities.
- • Ship incremental production improvements within the first 30 days, followed by ownership of a meaningful architectural area by day 90.
- • Contribute to the creation of patterns, libraries, and workflows that standardize AI development across Flock and reduce duplication of effort across product teams.
- • Maintain a strong product and customer mindset, balancing technical excellence with real-world usability and impact in criminal justice contexts.
- • Work in a fast-paced, high-accountability startup environment where ambiguity is common and ownership of high-impact problems is expected.
- • Ensure all systems comply with FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy requirements, including handling sensitive law enforcement data securely.
🎯 Requirements
- • Strong backend/software engineering fundamentals with experience shipping production code at scale
- • Proven experience with LLMs, AI systems, and agentic workflows in production environments

- • Experience with cloud infrastructure, databases, and distributed backend systems
- • Strong collaboration, ownership, and communication skills in cross-functional settings
- • Comfort working in ambiguity and startup-style environments with high expectations for impact
