Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Architect and own the end-to-end design of Traba’s agentic platform, including the orchestration runtime, evaluation and observability stack, and integration layer with customer systems (WMS/TMS/ERP) and internal services.
  • • Define and implement foundational technical decisions for the agent layer: model strategy, agent harness design, retrieval and memory architecture, tool/MCP surface, and quality measurement frameworks.
  • • Ship and iterate on production agent systems that operate autonomously within industrial workflows, ensuring reliability, scalability, and real-world impact across manufacturing and logistics facilities.
  • • Build evaluation as a rigorous engineering discipline by developing datasets, grader systems, regression suites, and experimentation tooling to validate agent performance with the same rigor applied to backend code.
  • • Spend time on-site at customer locations to observe warehouse and facility operations firsthand, translating operational nuances into durable product designs and repeatable deployment patterns.
  • • Lead the hiring, mentoring, and technical guidance of engineers joining the Agents team, establishing clear standards for what "good" looks like in applied AI at Traba.
  • • Select and integrate foundational tools and model providers, designing prompt versioning systems, observability pipelines, and cost/latency tuning mechanisms to optimize agent behavior in production.
  • • Collaborate directly with the CTO, product, and operations leadership to shape the multi-year platform roadmap, anticipating future needs of the agent layer and building ahead of demand.
  • • Design and maintain clean, maintainable abstractions for agent interactions, avoiding over-engineering while ensuring extensibility across diverse operational workflows and customer environments.
  • • Own the operational lifecycle of agent systems, including on-call responsibilities, incident response, and iterative improvements informed by real-world usage and failure modes.
  • • Translate deep domain knowledge of industrial operations—such as WMS quirks, shift cadence, and exception handling—into architectural decisions that prioritize practicality and scalability over theoretical elegance.
  • • Drive 0-to-1 product development in an early-stage environment, navigating ambiguity with pragmatism, making high-leverage technical tradeoffs, and leading teams through uncertainty with clear execution.
  • • Communicate complex technical concepts effectively through design docs, customer workshops, and team alignment sessions, ensuring cross-functional understanding and buy-in.
  • • Champion a culture of high-agency engineering by setting the tone for ownership, quality, and craftsmanship in every piece of code, eval, and deployment pattern the team produces.
  • • Establish and evolve best practices for prompt engineering, fine-tuning, retrieval, and code-based agent logic, with clear rationale for where and why each technique is applied.
  • • Integrate real-time data flows from millions of shifts and enterprise systems to enable agents that dynamically respond to changing operational conditions in live facilities.
  • • Build systems that leverage Traba’s proprietary data and deep enterprise relationships to activate workers on the platform as agents executing tasks within customers’ existing operational systems.
  • • Ensure agent systems are designed for composability, allowing future agents to build upon shared patterns, tools, and evaluation standards without duplicating effort or introducing technical debt.
  • • Maintain a relentless focus on productivity gains for industrial customers, measuring success through operational outcomes, not just model metrics.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 2+ years of hands-on production work on LLM- or agent-based systems.
  • • Deep proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript/Node.js, and a strong track record designing distributed systems, APIs, and data models on PostgreSQL and modern messaging (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or equivalent).
  • • Demonstrated ownership of a non-trivial production agent system: orchestration, tool use, retrieval, evals, observability, cost/latency tuning, and operational lessons from live deployment.
  • • Background in vertical AI / AI-agent company, Palantir/Scale-style FDE, or an AI-native data company (Hex, Omni, dbt).
  • • History of leading 0-to-1 product builds in early-stage environments, with comfort navigating ambiguity, making pragmatic tradeoffs, and exhibiting high agency.
  • • Strong written and verbal communication skills, evidenced by ability to conduct customer workshops, write design docs, and recruit engineering talent.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Start-up equity
  • • Competitive Salary
  • • 100% Paid health, dental & vision coverage
  • • Dinner Provided via DoorDash, free DashPass & stocked kitchen for NY employees
  • • Commuter benefit
  • • Gympass Benefit
