đź“‹ Description
- • At Jerry Technologies, Inc., we're not just building a company; we're revolutionizing how Americans manage their most significant assets: their cars and homes. As a Staff Software Engineer (Full-Stack, Backend-leaning), you will be at the forefront of this transformation, contributing to a $5 trillion+ market by developing the first end-to-end super app for car and home ownership. We are experiencing explosive growth, with revenue increasing 60x in the last five years, and we are now focused on scaling from 5 million to 50 million users. This is your opportunity to make a tangible impact on a product used by millions, working in a fast-paced, innovative environment where your contributions are visible and valued immediately.
- • Our engineering culture is defined by speed, ownership, and a lack of bureaucracy. Unlike at many other companies, engineers at Jerry.ai don't wait for approvals or dependencies. If you have a compelling idea, you have the autonomy to explain it, build it, and ship it, often within days, not months. This sense of direct impact is a core tenet of our philosophy. Engineers consistently report that their work directly influences the product and customer behavior, sometimes within the same week of deployment. This immediate feedback loop fosters a dynamic and engaging work environment where you can truly see the results of your efforts.
- • We believe in leading by example. Our leadership team, including our CTO and tech leads, are hands-on coders who maintain exceptionally high standards and refuse to settle for mediocrity. This commitment to excellence permeates the entire engineering organization. You'll be challenged to solve complex problems, context switch frequently across different systems (both new and legacy), and engage in continuous learning. The trust and autonomy granted to our engineers are unparalleled, fostering a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and mutual support. Mistakes are viewed as learning opportunities, not failures, as exemplified by a team member who shared an experience of causing a significant AWS cost overrun without facing blame, but instead focusing on collective prevention.
- • As a Staff Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in building and enhancing the automation systems that underpin our complex insurance servicing tasks. This includes developing solutions for policy endorsements, cancellations, document uploads, and reinstatements. You will also contribute to systems designed to reduce policy cancellations, improve renewal rates, and ensure our users consistently have optimal coverage. Our development cycles are rapid, with average sprint cycles allowing for the shipment of new automations in just 1-2 weeks.
- • Your responsibilities will extend to composing robust backend business logic that navigates the intricate rules and regulations of insurance carriers, ensuring seamless and compliant operations. You will design and implement sophisticated backend pipelines responsible for synchronizing customer policy data, delivering critical alerts, and powering intuitive re-shopping experiences. Furthermore, you will optimize and scale our internal tooling, such as our in-house DocuSign equivalent for servicing, with the goal of minimizing agent intervention to near-zero.
- • Collaboration is key to our success. You will work closely with product managers, data scientists, and engineering operations teams to proactively identify and address customer churn, thereby enhancing customer retention. Our team operates as a remote-first, global unit, with engineers distributed across North America and Asia. We embrace asynchronous communication, supplemented by regular context-sharing meetings and in-person global offsites. Your ability to communicate effectively and collaborate asynchronously through tools like Asana and Slack will be crucial.
- • You will be instrumental in continuously improving our backend systems, APIs, and microservice architecture. We are actively engaged in refactoring major parts of our codebase, simplifying legacy systems, rebuilding core workflows, and establishing a robust foundation for the next three years of platform growth. Your expertise will be vital in architecting and implementing these critical improvements, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance.
- • Our tech stack is modern and efficient, featuring TypeScript, Nest.js, Next.js, React, React Native, and Expo on the frontend and backend. We utilize GraphQL for our API, and our data infrastructure includes Postgres, DynamoDB, Clickhouse, and Redis. On the infrastructure side, we leverage AWS, microservices, containerized services on ECS/EKS, and asynchronous processing with Lambda. You will have the opportunity to work with and contribute to this advanced technology landscape.
- • This role is more than just a coding job; it's an opportunity to be part of a flexible, fast-moving, and highly collaborative culture that champions innovation, values your voice, and delivers immediate impact. You will tackle meaningful challenges, learn continuously, and grow alongside talented, egoless, and genuinely kind peers who are passionate about solving real-world problems and disrupting a massive market.
