📋 Description

• Lead the development and refinement of major subsystems powering the core guest user journey on Airbnb, including the Product Details Page (PDP), Pricing, and Availability across Homes, Hotels, Experiences, and Services.
• Design the future state of technical systems by aligning strategic product goals with deep understanding of existing architecture to make informed short- and long-term technical tradeoffs.
• Lead engineers both within and outside your immediate team to build scalable, flexible, and highly available technical solutions that support global guest experiences.
• Mentor and grow the technical and collaboration skills of peers and junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence across the organization.
• Pioneer the integration and application of AI in guest-facing features and in the development process itself, setting new standards for innovation.
• Collaborate early and often with product managers, designers, and stakeholders across Search, Checkout, Listings, Host Settings, Payments, Tax, Cities, and Trust to shape product and UX requirements.
• Identify systemic problems hindering engineering or product excellence and propose and implement scalable solutions to address them.
• Maintain and improve technical quality throughout the development lifecycle—from design and code review to production operations and monitoring.
• Ensure deep backend systems are effectively and accurately reflected in the guest-facing user experience, bridging technical implementation with customer impact.
• Demonstrate end-to-end ownership that transcends team boundaries to deliver globally optimal solutions across interconnected systems.
• Participate in strategic planning and technical deep dives, presenting findings and recommendations to cross-functional leadership and engineering stakeholders.
• Drive efficiency, availability, and system quality as core priorities in all engineering decisions and system designs.
• Contribute to the evolution of Airbnb’s service-oriented architecture by applying expertise in large-scale backend systems and distributed technologies.
• Support day-to-day operational health of critical guest-facing platforms, ensuring reliability and performance at global scale.
• Promote a culture of technical quality, accountability, and continuous improvement across engineering teams.

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant software development industry experience in a fast-paced tech environment
• Expertise with backend systems in large-scale service-oriented architectures
• Strong understanding of how deep backend systems are expressed in the UX shown to customers
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively across engineering teams and functions
• Good judgment in balancing short-term business needs with long-term technical quality
• Passionate about efficiency, availability, system quality, and user experience

🏖️ Benefits

• Base pay range of $212,000–$265,000 USD
• Eligible for bonus, equity, and benefits
• Eligible for Employee Travel Credits
• Remote-eligible within the United States (excluding certain states)
