📋 Description

• As a Staff Software Engineer on the Issues team at Optro (AuditBoard, Inc.), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of a leading audit, risk, ESG, and InfoSec platform trusted by over 50% of the Fortune 500, including 7 of the Fortune 10. This role is critical to delivering scalable, secure, and innovative software solutions that empower organizations to manage risk and compliance with clarity and agility, directly contributing to Optro’s recognition as one of the 500 fastest-growing tech companies in North America for seven consecutive years.
• You will lead end-to-end development of complex product features, drive architectural decisions, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate across engineering, design, and product teams to ensure high-quality, customer-centric outcomes. Your work will span backend APIs in Node.js, frontend development with Ember.js, and full-stack contributions using JavaScript, Python, and PostgreSQL, all within an Agile environment that values innovation, ownership, and continuous learning.

• In this role, you will deepen your expertise in scalable system design, modern full-stack technologies (Node.js, Ember.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL), and SaaS architecture while mentoring others and influencing technical strategy. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to open-source projects, shape team practices, and grow into a technical leader who drives both product impact and engineering excellence across the organization.
• Build and ship product features end-to-end, ensuring high quality, performance, and test coverage.
• Write clear, well-defined design documentation to guide implementation and align cross-functional stakeholders.
• Mentor fellow engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance to elevate team capability.
• Lead application architecture decisions, evaluating trade-offs for scalability, maintainability, and security.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex software bugs across frontend and backend systems.
• Implement back-end APIs using Node.js, REST/JSON, and integrate with PostgreSQL and other data stores.
• Work on the Ember.js SPA front-end to deliver responsive, intuitive user interfaces.
• Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and product managers in an Agile Scrum/Kanban environment.
• Participate in all phases of the software development life cycle, from planning to deployment and retrospectives.
• Write well-designed, maintainable, and testable code using modern JavaScript/TypeScript practices.
• Maintain a product-minded mindset, consistently evaluating how technical decisions impact customer value.
• Work with JavaScript, Node.js, Ember (or similar frameworks), Python, and PostgreSQL to deliver full-stack solutions.
• Contribute to open-source projects and internal tooling to improve developer experience and system reliability.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of experience developing web-based applications with a strong focus on full-stack or backend systems.
• Proven experience with a modern front-end framework such as Ember.js, Angular, React, or Vue.js.
• Demonstrated ability to write and maintain REST/JSON APIs, preferably using Node.js and Express or similar.
• Experience writing automated software tests (unit, integration, end-to-end) using frameworks like Jest, Mocha, or Cypress.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues independently.
• Motivation to continuously learn, adapt, and grow in a fast-paced, innovative engineering environment.
