📋 Description

• As a Staff Software Engineer on MongoDB's Networking & Observability team, you will help build the core of a distributed database by enhancing components that facilitate communication between cooperating distributed processes and making these processes and their communication easily observable.
• Day to day, you will improve MongoDB networking, enhance resource utilization efficiency, build low-overhead observability features, work on POCs and performance tests for new architectural directions in the networking stack, and integrate OpenTelemetry to accelerate issue and bottleneck investigation in tests.
• You will join a team of six engineers located in New York City and working fully remote, operating close to the bottom of the stack with significant influence over the performance, robustness, and development efficiency of MongoDB's open source database and engineering team.
• In this role, you will deepen your expertise in high-performance distributed systems, modern computer architecture, and production-level C++ development while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating across teams to deliver impactful, robust solutions at scale.

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building distributed systems
• Experience with building production-level code with a large user base, robust design structure, and rigorous code quality; experience in C++ is required
• Understanding of modern computer architecture and internals to reason about how design choices affect system behavior in a MongoDB-like environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, highly motivated to collaborate with colleagues and mentor junior engineers
• Good computer networking fundamentals and a desire to improve them
• Demonstrated industry success or academic research in high performance/low latency networking, performance tuning, or building high performance distributed and concurrent systems
