📋 Description

• As a Staff Software Engineer on MongoDB's Networking & Observability team, you will help build the core of a distributed database by enhancing components that facilitate communication between distributed processes and improve their observability.
• Day to day, you will design, develop, and optimize networking and observability features in MongoDB’s database engine, focusing on performance, reliability, and low-overhead instrumentation, including integration with OpenTelemetry and performance tuning of distributed systems.
• You will join a small, influential team of six engineers based in NYC and fully remote, working close to the bottom of the stack with significant impact on the performance, robustness, and development efficiency of MongoDB’s open source database and engineering teams.
• In this role, you will deepen your expertise in high-performance distributed systems, modern computer architecture, and production-grade C++ development while mentoring junior engineers and shaping the future of database observability at scale.

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building distributed systems
• Experience with building production-level code in C++ with a large user base, robust design, and rigorous code quality
• Strong computer networking fundamentals and a desire to improve them
• Understanding of modern computer architecture and internals to reason about design choices in systems like MongoDB
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience collaborating across teams and mentoring junior engineers
• Demonstrated success in high-performance/low-latency networking, performance tuning, or building high-performance distributed and concurrent systems
