Staff Software Engineer - Patient Matching (Remote)

📋 Description

• • Serve as a Staff Software Engineer on Rula’s Patient Matching team, designing and evolving systems that help patients find the right mental health provider based on trust, comfort, and continuity of care.
• • Lead the architecture and development of core patient funnel components including provider search, ranking, availability, eligibility, and booking experiences.
• • Translate ambiguous product and clinical needs into durable, scalable technical solutions with measurable business and patient impact.
• • Partner closely with Engineering Managers, product managers, designers, and clinicians to align technical execution with patient outcomes and business objectives.
• • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, architecture feedback, and technical guidance to raise the overall team’s engineering bar.
• • Unblock team members by identifying systemic bottlenecks and driving cross-functional solutions that improve velocity and reduce technical debt.
• • Leverage AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code as a standard part of the development workflow, applying them to accelerate delivery while critically evaluating risks and limitations.
• • Design and maintain reliable, high-performance APIs and data models that support real-time provider matching and patient booking workflows.
• • Advocate for system reliability by participating in on-call rotations, diagnosing production incidents, and implementing improvements to reduce downtime and improve observability.
• • Contribute to the evolution of data-intensive systems by integrating disparate data sources, building metrics pipelines, and ensuring data accuracy across patient-provider matching functions.
• • Drive technical decision-making across teams by weighing tradeoffs in scalability, maintainability, and time-to-value, ensuring alignment with long-term product vision.
• • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders to build consensus and surface risks early in the product development lifecycle.
• • Embrace startup agility by operating effectively in a high-growth, remote-first environment with evolving priorities and limited documentation.
