📋 Description

• As a Staff Software Engineer on the Scale team at Airwallex, you will play a pivotal role in building and maintaining the embedded finance platform that powers global enterprises such as Rippling, Navan, Qantas, and SHEIN. Your work will directly enable scalable, secure, and compliant financial infrastructure that supports mission-critical operations for hundreds of thousands of businesses worldwide.
• You will architect and evolve multi-tenant systems designed for high availability, low latency, and massive throughput, ensuring seamless performance across global data centers while meeting stringent enterprise SLAs. This includes optimizing for scale, resilience, and operational excellence in a distributed, cloud-native environment.
• You will own cross-domain product features that sit at the intersection of business, regulatory, and technical complexity—such as tax calculation engines, compliance workflows, and monetization tools—requiring deep synthesis of knowledge across teams where no single domain has full ownership.
• You will act as a solutions architect, translating complex enterprise business requirements into technical designs that influence sales outcomes, enabling multi-million-dollar contracts and differentiating Airwallex in competitive markets through tailored, scalable integrations.
• You will collaborate closely with Product, Design, Compliance, and Sales teams in a fast-paced, high-impact environment, using first-principles thinking and pragmatic judgment to balance speed with rigor, and leveraging AI to enhance productivity and decision-making.
• You will lead multi-team initiatives from conception to delivery, driving measurable technical and business impact while mentoring peers and fostering a culture of ownership, curiosity, and continuous learning.
• You will contribute to a world-class engineering culture grounded in Airwallex’s operating principles—moving fast with good judgment, digging deep with curiosity, and building systems that are not only technically excellent but also aligned with real-world customer needs and global financial regulations.
• In this role, you will grow beyond pure engineering by gaining exposure to enterprise sales motions, regulatory landscapes, and customer business models, positioning yourself for future leadership in technical architecture, product strategy, or even entrepreneurship.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot
• Proven ability to design scalable, maintainable systems with appropriate levels of abstraction, balancing flexibility and simplicity
• Demonstrated success in leading multi-team initiatives with measurable technical or business impact
• Experience designing for scale, including performance tuning at high throughput (100k+ QPS) and low-latency environments
• Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders across Product, Design, Compliance, and Sales
