- • Own the end-to-end architecture of the Search Platform, including the Vespa-based search engine, indexing pipeline, and Availability system that determines restaurant delivery eligibility.
- • Design and build the Temporal-orchestrated indexing pipeline that ingests, validates, transforms, and writes data into the search engine and availability store in real time.
- • Lead the implementation and evolution of the Two-Stage Filtering Architecture: zone-based availability filtering followed by Vespa-based ranking and filtering.
- • Define and maintain clear, versioned APIs and contracts for search and availability consumption across all customer-facing and internal channels.
- • Drive search relevance and ranking strategy by translating product goals into measurable ranking signals and evaluating performance through data-driven experimentation.
- • Manage the phased migration of legacy monolith components (Typeahead, Availability, Core Search) to the new composable platform with minimal disruption.
- • Establish a measurement and experimentation framework to evaluate the full-funnel impact of search improvements, from click-through rate to order fulfillment.
- • Lead collaborative technical design sessions, including white-boarding and architectural reviews, to align cross-functional teams on system decisions.
- • Partner with Platform Engineering on shared infrastructure including Temporal, observability tools, secrets management, and CI/CD pipelines.
- • Collaborate with Product, Data, and downstream engineering teams to refine ranking signals, API contracts, and data models that power search and availability.
- • Act as a technical multiplier through code reviews, design feedback, mentorship, and architectural guidance for junior and mid-level engineers.
- • Maintain operational ownership of the search platform, ensuring high availability, performance, and scalability under significant traffic volume.
- • Ensure the freshness and accuracy of the search index and availability data, directly impacting order volume, customer satisfaction, and platform competitiveness.
- • Build and evolve the data model for zone-based delivery filtering and schedule matching, originally extracted from a legacy monolith and re-architected for scalability.
- • Contribute hands-on to core components of the platform while providing strategic technical leadership to the Search team.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
- • Deep experience designing, building, and tuning search engines (Elasticsearch, Solr, OpenSearch, Vespa, or equivalent); experience leading a major search re-architecture or building from scratch is strongly preferred
- • Strong proficiency in Go, or a willingness to adopt it as a primary language
- • Experience with real-time data pipelines (Kafka, event streaming) for search indexing
- • Strong instincts for relevance and ranking, with the ability to translate product goals into ranking signals and evaluate them with data
- • Excellent written and verbal communication around collaborative system design and technical decision-making
