- • Lead the design, architecture, and development of GameChanger’s end-to-end video pipeline including live ingestion, transcoding, storage, and playback of millions of hours of youth sports content annually.
- • Architect and implement scalable video infrastructure on AWS to support high-concurrency live streaming and hundreds of millions of on-demand video clips with high reliability and low latency.
- • Design and build mobile broadcast and playback frameworks for iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin), optimizing video quality and stream reliability across diverse network conditions and device types.
- • Develop and maintain backend systems for video transcoding, storage, and delivery using technologies such as HLS, DASH, H.264, H.265, VP9, AV1, RTMP, SRT, and FFmpeg.
- • Create and integrate internal SDKs and APIs that enable other product teams to seamlessly incorporate video functionality into GameChanger’s apps across web, iOS, and Android platforms.
- • Collaborate with machine learning and computer vision teams to implement automated highlight clipping, live-stream overlays, and AI-driven video analytics features.
- • Mentor and onboard engineers, conduct code reviews, pair on complex architectures, and provide hands-on technical guidance to junior and mid-level developers within the new Video Engineering team.
- • Partner with Engineering and Product Managers to define the strategic roadmap for video capabilities, aligning technical execution with user experience and business goals.
- • Design and deploy real-time monitoring and alerting systems to track the health of video workflows, enabling rapid identification and resolution of production issues.
- • Participate in an on-call rotation (a few days per month) to support critical video systems during off-hours, ensuring minimal disruption to user experiences.
- • Build and maintain video player integrations across platforms, ensuring consistent playback performance and compatibility with DRM and advertising systems.
- • Work cross-functionally with platform, infrastructure, and front-end teams to unify video experiences and streamline development processes across the product ecosystem.
- • Establish best practices for video encoding, packaging, and delivery while evaluating emerging codecs (e.g., VVC) and protocols to maintain industry-leading quality and efficiency.
- • Document architectural decisions, technical workflows, and integration patterns to empower other teams to adopt and extend the video platform independently.
- • Advocate for user-centric video experiences by analyzing performance metrics, user feedback, and operational data to guide iterative improvements in streaming quality and reliability.
- • Lead the cultural and technical foundation of the new Video Engineering team, setting standards for collaboration, innovation, and engineering excellence.
🎯 Requirements
- • Strong background in video and audio streaming, with focus on live-streaming of user-generated content
- • Extensive experience architecting and building scalable, high-performance video pipelines in cloud environments (AWS preferred)
- • Deep understanding of video/audio codecs (H.264, H.265, VP9, AV1), packaging formats (HLS, DASH), and protocols (RTMP, SRT)
- • Hands-on software development experience across the video stack: mobile broadcast, ingest, transcoding, storage, and playback systems
- • Proficiency in at least one systems language (C#, Go, C++, Rust, Python) and front-end development in web, iOS (Swift), or Android (Kotlin)
- • Experience designing and integrating internal SDKs/APIs to enable cross-team video feature development
