Full Job Description

📋 Description

  • • As a Staff System Architect at Tools for Humanity Corporation (TFH), you will be at the forefront of developing groundbreaking hardware products that underpin the "real human network" designed to thrive in the age of AI. This pivotal role demands a unique blend of deep technical expertise and strong leadership acumen, empowering you to guide the system development of TFH device programs from their nascent conceptual stages all the way through to successful product launch.
  • • You will be the ultimate technical authority and the single point of accountability for the successful execution of system architecture and integration. This involves orchestrating efforts across a diverse array of engineering disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, silicon, firmware, validation, and manufacturing. Your mission is to ensure that the intricate web of hardware and software components functions harmoniously, meeting ambitious targets for performance, power consumption, cost-effectiveness, and unwavering reliability.
  • • A core aspect of your responsibility will be defining and championing the overall system architecture. This requires a holistic view, ensuring seamless alignment and integration across hardware, firmware, optics, and software domains. You will be instrumental in navigating complex subsystem tradeoffs, making critical technical decisions that directly impact the product's success and its ability to meet stringent product requirements, feature sets, performance benchmarks, and quality standards.
  • • Your leadership will extend to facilitating and leading rigorous technical reviews, fostering a culture of engineering excellence. You will coordinate effectively with external partners, including vendors and contract manufacturers, ensuring that all external contributions align with TFH's high standards. A significant part of your role involves proactively identifying and resolving complex cross-domain issues, applying a deep understanding of engineering principles to ensure robust design phases.
  • • You will be tasked with identifying technical risks and potential blockers at the earliest possible stages. By partnering closely with domain experts within the engineering teams, you will propose effective mitigation strategies and drive them to successful resolution, safeguarding project timelines and product integrity.
  • • Agility and adaptability are paramount. You must be capable of rapidly responding to evolving project landscapes, including architecture changes, schedule shifts, and necessary design tradeoffs, replanning and re-aligning efforts with precision and speed.
  • • Translating abstract product requirements into concrete, actionable system-level engineering plans, defining clear deliverables, and establishing rigorous validation criteria will be central to your function. You will own the engineering development schedule, meticulously managing dependencies and conducting thorough risk assessments, all grounded in a strong technical understanding of the underlying systems.
  • • Driving issue closure is a key performance indicator. You will achieve this by fostering close collaboration with subsystem owners, escalating issues only when absolutely necessary and after exhausting all internal resolution avenues.
  • • In partnership with Technical Program Managers (TPMs), you will play a crucial role in managing risks, optimizing schedules, and controlling costs, ensuring the overall efficiency and success of the development process.
  • • Your role necessitates exceptional cross-functional coordination. You will lead diverse engineering teams – encompassing Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Radio Frequency (RF), Camera, Display, Power, Software/Firmware, Test, and Operations – aligning priorities and driving collective progress towards shared goals.
  • • You will spearhead design implementation, oversee critical validation activities, and lead system bring-up efforts, ensuring that the product transitions smoothly from design to functional prototype and beyond.
  • • Looking towards production, you will collaborate closely with operations and supply chain teams to ensure manufacturability, implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles, and guarantee production readiness. This includes supporting system qualification and the mass production ramp.
  • • Post-ramp support is also within your purview. You will be instrumental in resolving post-production issues, including analyzing field failures and conducting reliability investigations, ensuring the long-term success and integrity of TFH's hardware offerings.
  • • Effective communication is vital. You will provide clear, concise technical status updates to leadership, highlighting key risks and outlining proposed mitigation strategies. You must be adept at articulating complex system challenges, explaining architectural tradeoffs, and presenting well-reasoned proposed solutions to diverse stakeholders.
  • • This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of digital identity and AI interaction, working with a world-class team on a mission to build a more trustworthy and human-centric internet. You will be instrumental in bringing innovative hardware to life that has the potential to redefine how people interact online.
