đź“‹ Description

  • • Flock Safety is at the forefront of revolutionizing community safety through innovative technology, building a nationwide public-private safety network that empowers cities, law enforcement, businesses, schools, and neighborhoods. With a robust foundation of trust from over 5,000 communities and 4,500 law enforcement agencies, Flock delivers real-time intelligence while upholding the highest standards of privacy and responsible innovation. We are a high-performance, low-ego team united by a sense of urgency, a collaborative spirit, and a drive for bold thinking. Joining Flock means embracing significant challenges, moving with speed, and committing to continuous improvement – an intense yet profoundly rewarding experience for those driven to make a tangible impact.
  • • As Flock Safety strategically expands into new product categories, each presenting escalating technical and operational complexities, we are seeking a highly experienced Staff Systems Engineer to instill structure and rigor throughout our development lifecycle. This pivotal role is designed to be the crucial bridge connecting high-level product vision with precise technical execution. You will be instrumental in defining the foundational requirements architecture and comprehensive validation strategies necessary to ensure our sophisticated systems—encompassing hardware, software, and firmware—perform with unwavering reliability in diverse field environments.
  • • In this critical role, you will spearhead the meticulous development of clear, unambiguous, and testable requirements and detailed functional specifications for intricate, multidisciplinary systems. Your expertise will be vital in translating complex product needs into actionable engineering tasks, ensuring that every component of our safety technology platform is designed and built to exacting standards.
  • • You will be responsible for architecting and executing robust, system-level validation plans. These plans will meticulously verify that our products not only meet but exceed stakeholder expectations and adhere to stringent technical standards, ensuring optimal performance and user satisfaction.
  • • A key aspect of this position involves establishing scalable and efficient strategies for technical documentation and requirements traceability. This will create a seamless flow of information, supporting both manual and automated testing processes and ensuring a high degree of accuracy and accountability throughout the development cycle.
  • • You will actively engage in reviewing system architectures and Product Requirements Documents (PRDs), proactively identifying potential technical gaps, assessing operational risks, and clarifying any areas of ambiguity to prevent downstream issues.
  • • This role demands serving as a central technical liaison, fostering seamless communication and alignment between Product Management and our diverse Engineering teams, including Software, Hardware, Firmware, and Quality Assurance (SQA). Your efforts will ensure a unified understanding of project goals and the definition of success across all disciplines.
  • • Your responsibilities will extend to decomposing high-level product capabilities into well-defined, actionable user stories and technical requirements, ensuring that engineering teams have the clarity needed to implement solutions effectively.
  • • You will evaluate and navigate complex technical trade-offs inherent in tightly coupled hardware and software systems, ensuring that decisions align with cross-functional objectives and the needs of geographically distributed teams.
  • • A solid grasp of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) management is essential, including expertise in release planning, version control, and coordination within Agile development frameworks.
  • • You will leverage your hands-on experience with both Agile and V-model development methodologies, with a particular focus on their application to system verification and validation processes.
  • • A significant part of your contribution will involve developing or supporting electro-mechanical and/or robotic systems that feature tightly integrated hardware and software development cycles, demanding a holistic systems engineering approach.
  • • Furthermore, you will contribute to the development of Entity-Relationship Diagrams (ERDs) for next-generation product variants, laying the groundwork for future innovation and system evolution. You will also expand your technical expertise across the broader integrated product ecosystem, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of how all components interact and contribute to the overall safety solution.
  • • In your first 90 days, you will immerse yourself in the technical intricacies of our device portfolio, with a special emphasis on aviation and aerospace solutions. You will conduct site visits to observe product deployment and performance in real-world scenarios, attend live demonstrations to analyze product positioning and evolving customer needs, and audit system requirements (PRDs) to pinpoint technical risks, ambiguities, and edge cases. By day 60, you will aggregate system features into comprehensive user stories for all major technical subsystems, define a scalable PRD framework that integrates with testing workflows, lead the development of functional specifications for core aviation subsystems, and execute onsite system-level smoke testing. By day 90 and beyond, you will build test suites mapped to technical requirements, lead end-to-end system testing and validation for flagship product lines, author detailed requirements and ERDs for new product variants, and broaden your technical knowledge across the entire product ecosystem.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 12+ years of experience in systems engineering and development, with a proven track record of successfully guiding complex projects from conception to deployment.
  • • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field, providing a strong theoretical foundation for complex system design and analysis.
  • • Demonstrated experience across the full systems development lifecycle, including requirements elicitation, system architecture design, implementation support, rigorous validation, and successful deployment in real-world environments.
  • • Proven ability to author clear, testable Engineering Requirements Documents (ERDs) and effectively decompose complex system capabilities into well-defined, actionable user stories that engineering teams can readily implement.
  • • Hands-on experience working within both Agile and V-model development methodologies, particularly as they relate to system verification and validation, ensuring a comprehensive approach to quality assurance.
  • • Prior experience developing or supporting electro-mechanical and/or robotic systems with tightly integrated hardware and software development cycles, showcasing an understanding of complex system interactions.
