Staff Systems Engineer (Rust) - Anywhere Cloud

📋 Description

• • Design and build high-performance, Rust-based infrastructure services including reverse proxies, credential brokers, and distributed log collectors that operate in the data path of Cloudera’s Anywhere Cloud platform.
• • Own end-to-end development of critical systems components, from initial design documentation through deployment to production, ensuring correctness and performance in security-sensitive contexts.
• • Implement and verify authentication protocols and access control mechanisms where bugs can lead to security bypasses, using thorough testing methodologies including property-based and fuzz testing.
• • Architect new infrastructure components by defining module boundaries, memory budgets, streaming patterns, and graceful shutdown semantics, with clear documentation of design tradeoffs.
• • Build distributed telemetry and observability systems using structured tracing, metrics, and health endpoints to monitor performance and reliability of low-level services.
• • Serve as the go-to systems expert for cross-team engineering teams, providing guidance on performance-sensitive design, streaming patterns, caching strategies, and resource-constrained systems.
• • Drive technical direction by leading design documents for new components, evaluating build-vs-buy decisions, and defining testing strategies that ensure confidence in critical code paths.
• • Deploy and operate Kubernetes-native services in hybrid environments including public clouds, private data centers, and air-gapped systems, leveraging the operator pattern and Helm for infrastructure management.
• • Ensure systems are optimized for latency and memory efficiency, with zero tolerance for naive implementations that could cause unbounded memory growth or performance degradation.
• • Collaborate on securing data pipelines by reasoning about adversarial edge cases, input validation, and protocol-level proxying to prevent vulnerabilities in credential brokering and request signing.
• • Maintain and enhance the platform’s ability to run data and AI workloads anywhere without vendor lock-in, extending public cloud benefits like scalability and elasticity to on-premises and edge environments.
• • Contribute to the evolution of Cloudera’s Kubernetes-native platform by integrating with S3-compatible storage protocols and request signing standards such as SigV4.
• • Instrument services with performance profiling tools to analyze and optimize P99 latency, flamegraphs, and benchmarking metrics for high-throughput, low-latency operations.
• • Mentor junior engineers on systems thinking, Rust best practices, and secure coding principles in performance-critical environments.
• • Operate within a hybrid infrastructure model that separates compute and storage to maximize flexibility and optimize infrastructure usage across diverse deployment environments.
