- • The System Power Engineer role at OpenAI's Consumer Devices team is critical to ensuring AI-powered hardware products are energy-efficient, reliable, and deliver optimal user experiences by minimizing power draw and thermal impact.
- • Day to day, you will define and automate power testing workflows, measure subsystem-level power consumption using lab instrumentation like power breakout probes, execute characterization tests across varied workloads, and collaborate with electrical and software teams to improve battery life, charging performance, and thermal behavior.
- • You will join a multidisciplinary team of experts in embedded systems, machine learning, hardware, design, and product engineering focused on building next-generation AI-integrated consumer products that push the boundaries of seamless AI-hardware interaction.
- • In this role, you will develop repeatable power benchmarks and methodologies that shape product readiness, drive efficiency improvements across the product lifecycle, and gain deep expertise in power optimization for AI-enabled embedded systems at scale.
🎯 Requirements
- • Experience measuring and optimizing power consumption on embedded hardware platforms
- • Experience designing and operating complex hardware-in-the-loop laboratories and orchestrating device testing at scale
- • Experience analyzing power profiles and correlating them with overall system performance
- • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Electrical Engineering, embedded software, systems, and product teams
- • Experience defining repeatable power benchmarks and launch readiness metrics for hardware products
- • Strong proficiency in Python
