• As a Systems Engineer specializing in SAP ABAP, you will be instrumental in analyzing, remediating, and modernizing intricate SAP custom code landscapes. This role uniquely combines deep ABAP development expertise, with a particular focus on custom code remediation, S/4HANA adaptation, and performance optimization, with a strong systems engineering discipline, sophisticated integration design, and the application of AI-driven automation. You will engage directly with SAP ECC and S/4HANA environments, conducting in-depth custom code analysis, configuring and executing Application Test Center (ATC) and readiness scans, resolving deprecated objects, and refactoring legacy ABAP code to adhere to clean-core and extensibility best practices. Furthermore, you will play a key role in supporting cross-system integrations and enabling AI-driven automation across ERP and other adjacent enterprise platforms.
• This position is ideally suited for a seasoned engineer who possesses a comprehensive understanding of how SAP systems function within real-world production environments, spanning application, data, and integration layers. You will be empowered to modernize highly customized landscapes safely, with robust governance, and intelligently through the strategic use of automation and artificial intelligence. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency, scalability, and future-readiness of our clients' critical SAP systems.
• Key Responsibilities will include:
• **Code Analysis & Technical Remediation:** Conduct deep-dive analyses of legacy ABAP programs, includes, enhancements, and custom frameworks. Accurately identify and resolve S/4HANA incompatibilities, deprecated objects, and obsolete logic. Execute and meticulously interpret ATC checks, S/4 readiness assessments, and remediation findings. Refactor custom developments to align with HANA-optimized SQL and simplified data models, ensuring optimal performance and maintainability. Investigate and resolve runtime errors, short dumps, update failures, and Gateway inconsistencies with precision. Redesign WRICEF components to systematically reduce complexity and enhance long-term maintainability. Strengthen system performance through detailed trace analysis, strategic indexing, and CDS-based redesign. Ensure all extensibility patterns strictly adhere to clean-core and upgrade-safe principles, safeguarding future system integrity.
• **S/4HANA Readiness & Technical Transformation:** Proactively prepare ECC systems for S/4HANA conversion through a structured and systematic custom code adaptation process. Re-architect legacy reporting solutions utilizing modern ABAP constructs such as CDS Views and AMDP. Support the transition to the RESTful ABAP Programming Model (RAP) where strategically appropriate. Implement robust side-by-side extensibility solutions via SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) when core modification is not the optimal approach. Modernize existing forms and output frameworks, including SAPscript, SmartForms, and Adobe Forms. Contribute significantly to transport management, version control, and the adoption of Git-based development strategies for enhanced collaboration and traceability.
• **Integration Engineering & Event Enablement:** Design, implement, and troubleshoot complex SAP integrations leveraging technologies like IDocs, RFCs, BAPIs, OData, and APIs. Analyze intricate trigger-based logic embedded within legacy programs and refactor these into modern, event-driven patterns for improved responsiveness and decoupling. Support middleware-based integration scenarios and cross-platform orchestration efforts, ensuring seamless data flow and process execution. Guarantee data integrity and transactional consistency across the entire enterprise landscape. Proactively monitor and resolve integration bottlenecks that may impact upstream or downstream systems, ensuring end-to-end process stability.
• **AI-Augmented SAP Engineering:** Leverage state-of-the-art AI tools to comprehensively scan custom ABAP repositories, identifying risk indicators and significant remediation opportunities. Pinpoint hard-coded logic, implicit dependencies, and undocumented integration triggers that pose potential issues. Support the automated insertion of service calls and critical governance controls within custom logic to enhance security and compliance. Collaborate closely with AI engineers to operationalize SAP observability and implement intelligent workflow automation, driving efficiency and insight. Transform traditionally undocumented SAP systems into analyzable, structured technical assets, improving understanding and manageability.
• **Delivery Execution & Stakeholder Alignment:** Serve as a senior technical contributor throughout SAP remediation and modernization programs, providing expert guidance and execution. Translate complex ABAP findings into clear, actionable, and structured remediation roadmaps. Partner effectively with enterprise architects, AI engineers, and delivery teams to ensure the safe and successful implementation of solutions. Communicate technical risk assessments and strategic modernization plans clearly and concisely to all relevant stakeholders. Actively participate in customer-facing workshops and milestone-driven onsite engagements, fostering strong client relationships and ensuring project success.
• **Reliability, Governance & Engineering Discipline:** Deliver production-ready solutions that meet the highest standards for high-availability enterprise environments. Maintain rigorous auditability and traceability throughout all remediation efforts, ensuring compliance and accountability. Skillfully balance the imperative for modernization velocity with the critical need for upgrade safety and adherence to compliance requirements. Contribute to the development and refinement of internal standards for ABAP code quality and robust modernization frameworks, promoting best practices across the organization.

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum of 5-10 years of hands-on SAP ABAP development experience, with a strong emphasis on custom code analysis, remediation, and S/4HANA adaptation.
• Proven experience in analyzing, refactoring, and optimizing complex custom ABAP codebases within ECC and S/4HANA environments, including deep knowledge of WRICEF objects, enhancement techniques, and performance tuning.
• Strong proficiency in SAP integration technologies (IDoc, RFC, BAPI, OData, APIs) and experience troubleshooting cross-system data flows and transactional integrity.
• Demonstrated ability to execute and interpret SAP's ATC checks and S/4HANA readiness assessments, coupled with practical experience in remediating identified issues and deprecated objects.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills, with a methodical approach to reducing technical debt in legacy systems, especially when dealing with incomplete documentation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and a willingness to travel to U.S.-based customer sites as required.
