- • Design and implement public safety radio communication systems for state and local government agencies using Motorola’s ASTRO 25 and adjacent technologies, ensuring mission-critical reliability.
- • Lead technical execution of projects ranging from single-site municipal installations to statewide systems valued at tens to hundreds of millions of dollars, from initial design through final customer acceptance.
- • Perform comprehensive radio network design including infrastructure, subscribers, mobile backhaul, WAN, and CEN networks to meet customer specifications and regulatory standards.
- • Conduct radio coverage testing, frequency analysis, and interference mitigation to optimize system performance across diverse geographic terrains.
- • Execute system buildout, configuration, and acceptance testing in both lab staging environments and live field deployments under tight project timelines.
- • Engage directly with customers and consultants during design reviews, witnessed staging events, coverage acceptance testing, live system upgrades, and troubleshooting sessions.
- • Prepare and maintain complete system documentation including fleet maps, encryption configurations, and radio programming templates for operational compliance.
- • Manage FCC and industry radio system licensing processes, including frequency searches and regulatory filings to ensure legal operation of deployed systems.
- • Configure and commission network hardware including Fortinet and Juniper firewalls, Nokia 7705 and Juniper SRX/MX routers, and HP/Aruba and Juniper switches.
- • Operate and maintain server systems running VMware ESXi, Linux, and Microsoft operating systems to support communication platform infrastructure.
- • Implement and troubleshoot IP networking protocols including OSPF, ISIS, BGP, MPLS, RSVP-TE, SIP, RTP, SNMP, and NAT across L2/L3 Ethernet and TCP/IP environments.
- • Install and configure physical layer components such as fiber optic cables, copper cabling, and microwave transmission systems for reliable connectivity.
- • Support construction of remote communication sites including site selection, grounding, compound development, tower placement, and shelter requirements.
- • Utilize remote access tools such as SSH, SCP, SFTP, and RDP to manage and troubleshoot deployed systems from remote locations.
- • Integrate software applications and leverage API concepts to enable interoperability between radio systems and external platforms.
- • Apply RFDS principles for antenna and cable selection, transmit combiners, receive multi-couplers, and lightning protection system design.
- • Ensure adherence to P25 Land Mobile Radio standards and two-way subscriber radio provisioning methods throughout all system implementations.
- • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Sales, Project Management, System Technologists, Construction Managers, and Customer Service Managers to deliver seamless system transitions.
- • Travel 25-50% within the T4E territory (North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia) to support on-site project deployments, site inspections, and customer-facing activities.
- • Maintain professional and collaborative relationships with third-party service providers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure project success.
- • Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills to articulate technical requirements, report findings, and document system changes accurately.
- • Exhibit self-motivation and initiative in managing complex technical tasks with minimal supervision under high-pressure, mission-critical conditions.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or technical discipline and 3+ years of engineering or technical experience OR 5+ years of engineering or technical experience
- • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely (no sponsorship available)
- • Demonstrated experience with radio frequency engineering principles and Land/Mobile Radio Engineering
- • Experience with Motorola ASTRO 25 architecture, P25 standards, and FCC licensing
- • Proficiency with networking hardware (Juniper, Nokia, Fortinet), servers (VMware ESXi, Linux, Windows), and remote access tools (SSH, RDP)
- • Knowledge of IP networking protocols (OSPF, BGP, MPLS, SIP, RTP) and physical layer technologies (fiber, copper, microwave)
