  • • Otis Worldwide Corporation is seeking enthusiastic and driven Systems Engineer Interns to join our dynamic team, focusing on the critical integration of elevator and building systems. This internship offers a unique opportunity for students pursuing engineering degrees to gain invaluable hands-on experience in a cutting-edge environment, working with sophisticated electro-mechanical systems, networked controls, and advanced smart-building technologies. You will be an integral part of a team responsible for ensuring the seamless installation, configuration, and optimal performance of our elevator control systems, collaborating closely with experienced field engineers, technicians, project managers, and directly with customers.
  • • As a Systems Engineer Intern, your primary responsibilities will revolve around supporting the installation and commissioning of elevator control systems. This involves assisting senior field engineers in the physical setup and initial testing of hardware, ensuring all components are correctly installed and connected. A significant aspect of this role is the integration of our elevator systems with broader building management systems (BMS), access control platforms, and various monitoring solutions. You will meticulously verify that system configurations align precisely with detailed engineering drawings, project specifications, and the unique requirements of each customer, ensuring a high standard of accuracy and compliance.
  • • Beyond installation, you will play a crucial role in troubleshooting and providing technical support for complex system-level issues. This will involve helping to diagnose problems that may span hardware, software, networking, and inter-system interfaces. You will support field technicians during the critical startup and testing phases, as well as during any necessary corrective actions. A key learning opportunity will be participating in root-cause analysis for encountered issues, meticulously documenting your findings, the steps taken, and the resolutions implemented. You will also assist in efficiently resolving any outstanding punch-list items identified during site inspections or customer walkthroughs, ensuring project completion to the highest satisfaction.
  • • Maintaining accurate and comprehensive documentation is paramount. You will be responsible for keeping detailed records of test results, any configuration changes made to the systems, and thorough troubleshooting logs. Adherence to established engineering, safety, and quality standards will be a core expectation, ensuring that all work performed meets Otis's rigorous benchmarks. This role emphasizes continuous learning and development, where you will work under the direct guidance of senior engineers to deepen your understanding of system architecture, design principles, and industry best practices. Active participation in technical training sessions and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives will be encouraged, fostering a culture of growth and innovation.
  • • This internship is designed for individuals currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field, such as Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline. A foundational understanding of electrical systems, control systems, or industrial automation is essential. Familiarity with networking fundamentals, including IP addressing, Ethernet, and serial communications, is also required. The ability to read and interpret technical documentation, such as schematics, wiring diagrams, and specifications, is a critical skill for success in this role. You will be expected to demonstrate strong problem-solving and analytical skills, a genuine desire to learn complex systems and new technologies, and clear written and verbal communication abilities. The capacity to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team, coupled with a keen attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to safety and quality, will define your contribution to Otis.
