Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the technical vision and execution for the Reporting & Filing product line, translating complex sales-tax regulations into elegant, scalable software that processes millions of transactions per month for e-commerce merchants across all 50 U.S. states and international jurisdictions.
- • Lead, mentor, and grow a distributed engineering squad of 5-8 engineers (full-stack, data, and DevOps) through weekly 1:1s, quarterly OKR planning, and continuous feedback loops that accelerate individual career paths while raising the collective bar for code quality, ownership, and psychological safety.
- • Serve as the primary technical partner to Product Managers and internal stakeholders—translating customer pain points into actionable epics, sizing work with story-point accuracy, and ensuring every release lands on schedule with zero-downtime deployments and measurable business impact.
- • Architect and evolve a cloud-native data platform on Azure that ingests, transforms, and serves petabyte-scale order, rate, and filing data using Go micro-services, CosmosDB, Postgres, Azure Functions, Event Grid, and Event Hub—while modernizing legacy .NET C# and SQL Server components through incremental strangler-fig patterns.
- • Design and maintain mission-critical data pipelines in Databricks (Delta Tables, Lakeflow Declarative Pipelines, Workflows, Unity Catalog) that guarantee sub-hour SLAs for tax-rate updates, daily filing deadlines, and real-time compliance dashboards used by Fortune 500 retailers and fast-growing DTC brands.
- • Champion engineering excellence by instituting automated testing (unit, integration, property-based), peer code reviews, trunk-based development, and CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions that cut release cycle time from weeks to hours and reduce production incidents by 40% year-over-year.
- • Collaborate with Security, Compliance, and Legal teams to embed SOC-2, GDPR, and state-level audit requirements into every layer of the stack—ensuring customer data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is governed by least-privilege IAM, and all changes are traceable through immutable logs.
- • Proactively identify, prioritize, and retire technical debt by allocating 20% of sprint capacity to refactoring, performance tuning, and dependency upgrades—balancing feature velocity with long-term maintainability and cost optimization on Azure consumption plans.
- • Drive cross-team technical initiatives such as schema evolution standards, event-driven architecture guilds, and shared Terraform/Bicep modules that reduce duplicated effort and empower autonomous squads to ship faster without compromising security or reliability.
- • Represent the engineering organization in customer calls, quarterly business reviews, and industry webinars—translating technical trade-offs into business language and gathering first-hand feedback that feeds directly into the next product roadmap iteration.
- • Foster an inclusive, remote-first culture across time zones (PT, CT, ET) by facilitating virtual architecture deep-dives, lightning talks, and hack-days that celebrate diverse perspectives and keep the team connected to the broader mission of democratizing tax compliance for online sellers worldwide.
